I just wanted to leave a pondering missive. I have just taken Flobble to a different vet to usual, as he is off work for a while. I thought she may have ovarian cysts as she's been hormonal with swollen lady bits and nips and being a real pain to the younger girls in our group, by persistently mounting them. My main concern was her weight loss.
The vet I saw was very nice, but couldn't tell whether the lumps in her tummy were kidneys or ovarian cysts?! They wanted to shave her tummy to do an ultra sound. I wasn't too keen to let them do that, as I didn't feel particularly confident in their experience or knowledge. They said she was a healthy Piggle and it was safe to monitor her for now. I'll wait for my favourite vet to make a reappearance back at work.
Could we campaign for some kind of recognition of Cavvy Savvy vets? So when you search the websites there's a logo of some kind so you know there's a specialist there?
I have searched high and low for a recommendation for somewhere more local to where I live (near Brackley). I'll stick to my 25 mile drive in future. It's really frustrating, there's lots of awesome Piggles and Piggle owners, who deserve experienced vets!

I think it's Simon at the Cat and Rabbit clinic in Northampton that is recommended by members as cavvy savy.

I totally agree with you I think something should be done about the lack of knowledge vets have on guinea pigs especially as they are a common pet.

I am currently looking for a cavy savvy vet in sussex, as my vet doesn't seem to know much and my rodentologist knew much more !
