Why Would Piggies Have White Poop?

Are the poops white when fresh or have they turned white as they have dried, like dog poo does?
I can only think that it is caused by something they have eaten, or by calcium in their water.
Wiebke will know better.
 
Thank you, they are dried and I don't know how long they have been there it's just the hutch is covered in them :( would a black poop turn white?
These are not my piggies I'm referring too :)

It is likely that a piggy had a calcium pee over the poos. that is how guinea pigs get rid of excess calcium. it dries to a white powder. Poos are normally brown; they can be purplish with beetroot.

If they have been around for days, then the white substance is mould.
 
Difficult to say without seeing a picture - but other possibe reasons are:
Poos that have been lying around for a few days can grow a white bloom of mould.
Boy piggies with early impaction sometimes produce poos covered in the white/creamy secretions from the anal sac.
It could signify an incorrect diet and lack of green veggies/hay/fibre.

I would be concerned about husbandry and diet of these piggies if the cage is covered in white poos..

@Pebble your have just something that makes sense thank you, they don't have veg if they do its a carrot every so often, they have that dry colourful food in their bowl I don't think they are eating it :(
 
If they have sufficient hay (which should comprise 90% of their diet anyway) then the poos would still be brown (but slightly paler). The brown colour is mainly from broken down red blood cells but piggies eating lots of fresh green veg generally tend to have darker poos.

I think I'd be more concerned that the poos are growing mould because they are left lying around for too long.....picture however would be helpful.
 
They may be old/dried out/have mold. They may have a layer of pee over them and you are seeing the while residue from calcium in the urine. If they are completely white, I would have no idea, but those are two causes of poos looking whitish over top of the usual color.

Thank you for your reply, their diet is not the best at the mo sadly and we (on here) think that's the issue.
 
If I forget to empty the poo picking DustBuster for a couple of days then the contents develop a lovely white covering of mouldy fur! It's weird though because it doesn't happen to any of the other poops that are left lying around (ie on the puppy pads under the chair that only get changed every 3 days)
