On 11th April this year I got a call on my mobile from a vets in Norwich who had taken in a stray guinea pig with skin problems. Although I had closed my rescue they could not find anyone to take him so I agreed to go and pick him up. He was in the most appaling state and on many occasions I almost cried because I could see how uncomfortable he was. He had one of the worst cases of a fungal infection I had seen and every time you even lightly touched him he started fitting :'(. Here is how he looked the day I picked him up
We immediatly started him on a treatment of gorgeous guineas marvelous melts, gg tamanu and calendula cream and lots of alphosil baths. Jay helped me by giving his cage a good clean while I was doing the bathing. Wilbers skin was red hot to touch and he continued to scratch at his wounds so we started to use tubigrip bandages to stop him doing any more harm. Here is how he looked 3 days later on 14th April
It has been a long and painful road to recovery for him but he is almost there now
. He still has the bandage on because he started to open up his wounds again when we left it off for any period of time but it should be able to come off soon as the skin looks great underneath now it has had time to heal. Here is how he looked yesterday (26th May) and as you can see we can now finally see he is a crested himi 8)
We decided to keep Wilber permanently and will be pairing him up with Conker, the little satin boar that is with Claire at the moment O0
I would have posted these pics sooner but havent had much chance to get on the internet.
