i have two female 1 year old pigs. Most evenings they have a rumble at each other and a few squeaks and a chase. Especially when I move them from outside to inside cages. Is this normal? Most of the time they get on but they do seem to like to bicker. Will this ever settle down or is this just normal behaviour?

Hi! How long have you had your girls?

About 8-9 month.

In my experience, some sow pairs (especially my sisters or triplets) can be very contentious and squabbly, especially when they are younger. Things tend to settle down a bit more once they reach full adulthood after about 18 months to two years.

That's good to know. i can't tell if they like/tolerate/hate each other. Sometimes we investigate if it gets lively and they both look at you as if to say "what are you looking at" leave us alone.

From what you've said I wouldnt worry, I think some pigs have a love-hate relationship. Beans and Toast bicker most of the time. They do love each other and will have a snuggle together sometimes. When one is at the vets or they have to be separated for whatever reason, they pine for each other... But they also rumble and head butt, sometimes it really seems like they love to annoy each other :P

As long is it's not getting too intense and one isn't distressed by it I wouldn't worry too much
