Hi - me again - you must be sick of me picking your brains all the time - sorry !

As you may know i collected my 2 new rescue piggies from the RSPCA on Saturday. Twister had been castrated on the Tuesday (i.e. 6 days ago). Since i've had him, his little willie is sticking out all the time. Not all the way out - just 3 or 4 mm - but every time i look it is out. I have had boars castrated before and never noticed this. The scar at either side is scabbed up, but looks ok - it's just his willie i'm worried about.

He's eating ok, drinking, pooing and weeing - but he spends all his time in the bed section, and rarely moves. Even in the run he just sits still.

I have been given 3 weeks free vet treatment with the RSPCA vet - do you think i'm over reacting if i call them ?

Rach

I have no idea wether this can be "normal" or not but my neutered boars penis didn't come out altho i did have to remove 2 large plugs of semen within the first week of him being done. Have you had a look to see if there's anything wrapped round his penis that could be preventing it retracting?

I'd take him to the vet for a check over as i don't think you're over-reacting :)

This is one of the risks with this procedure. One of my boys wasn't like that after the op, but over a few months has become a bit of a dragger. I try to keep an eye on it and clean when it gets grubby, but other than that currently I leave alone. I did mention it to the vet who did the op, and he said not to worry unless there's sign of infection. Of course, he was highly unlikely to say "worry, because I didn't do the job you paid me to do", but so far there's been no problems.

As this is happening so soon after surgery I don't think you're being at all paranoid to get in touch with the vets to see what they say! :)
