Poor Idris is eating well but has been gradually losing weight. Our vet recognised that they don't have the expertise so we went to the Beaumont in London on Monday. We are topping him up with syringe feeding (which he is mad for!) and he's back there tomorrow for sedation while they take blood sample, scan hin and check his teeth. Suspected enlarged thyroid.

Very worried after losing bunny Marmaduke to anaesthetic in September and then little Snowball in October. His boar friend Crumble is doing well following his health scare and syringe feeding rescue in October. He now hates the syringe food!

Hoping for a positive start to 2020.

Sending Idris healing vibes and my very best wishes to you. I hope you have a much happier 2020 and Idris gets well soon.

Fingers firmly crossed! Mystery weight loss is one of my least favourite symptoms... :(

Sending my love and prayers for Idris❤❤

Well the good news is that Idris survived the anaesthetic, blood sample and x-ray and is home eating his veggies tonight with the rest of the family.

Nothing concrete to report so far but he has some antibiotics as he's a little wheezy and something to help his digestion as he may be a bit gassy from the extra feeding. Cisapride and Doxycycline. Waiting for the blood test results and making sure that he gets extra fuss and nibbles. He's not so keen on the oxbow critical care supplement. Will get some more Supreme recovery from our local vet tomorrow.

Thank you for all your positive and kind messages. ❤

So this afternoon we came home to find he has diarrhoea. 🙁 On the plus side he still has an appetite and is currently munching on hay after some recovery food which we managed to get today after he wouldn't eat the Oxbow version.

Waiting for a call back from the vet before we give him tonight's doses of Doxycycline and Cisapride. Anyone have experience with them causing diarrhoea? Idris is not happy missing his veggies tonight. Just a little coriander.

Poor fellow. I’ve not had that experience myself with those drugs. Hope the vets call you back soon. Good to hear he is still eating.

Update, told to stop the Doxycycline but continue with the Cisapride and check in with the vets again in the morning.

Prescribed Baytril 0.4ml twice a day for 10 days. Thyroid OK. Unspecified infection. Sometimes it feels like they just don't know what to do...

Idris was admitted into the hospital this afternoon to try to find a fix for his lung infection. Heard later that it's not going so well. Just hoping that he can find it in him pull through. ❤

Thinking of you - I really hope he can rally round soon. I’ve got a very sick piggy in hospital tonight too (Winnie) and it’s so worrying and upsetting isn’t it. Thinking of you and Idris.

Healing vibes being sent your way by the truckload, speedy recovery to Idris and Winnie @LucyP
My girls have all loved supreme recovery food, so no issues with getting them to eat it to keep their gut working & energy up.

Can your vet try a different antibiotic to see if Idris improves, the infection might be resistant to the Baytril or it might just be its not strong enough to fight the infection?
If it's fluid on his lungs causing the crackles ask the vet if a diuretic (furosomide is a common one) might be of some use to clear the fluid?
Good luck & fingers crossed.

Love the girls & I xx
