Deciding that I was going to change the guineas over to pellets from gerty guinea pig so they dont selective feed has not been a success.
I have tried supa burgess and p@h pellets and they just wont touch it :(
Do I give up and leave them on gerty? Just wanted the best for my guineas and thought pellets was the way to go....

i gave up on giving mine pellets,i kinda mixed it in the end with the normal muesli food but they still dug it out :(

i recently did the same. changed mine from gerty to excel nuggets.
you have to give it time - at least a month.
first of all i did it 50-50 for about 2 weeks and they didnt touch the excel.
then gradually i think they must have tried some and started eating a little bit.
the 3rd week i mixed it 25-75 so there was hardly any gerty.
by the 4th week i gave them only excel now they gobble it all up :)

i changed all my rabbits over to burgess excel at the same time and they took to it within 2 weeks but the piggies seem to be fussier, yours may take a bit longer but stick at it because it will be worth it. ;)

i tried with mine my older 2 wont touch them i do still mix it in with there gerty but not going down too well at all

but my babies love it i mix theres in with gerty and it all gose i do like half and half with the little ones but only give the older ones 25/75

my older ones will only eat gerty i have tired them with other stuff but there use to tip it put of the dish and put the dish up side down

there to fussy

Will keep going then, have been doing it for about 1 1/2 weeks now.

As I have P@H and burgess pellets, shall I mix a bit of both in with the gerty?

Yeah :)

It took mine a while to try something new and that's how I introduce new stuff - mix it in :)

I changed mine over to pellets slowly the same way bunpig has done. I am now changing two more over to pellets and they are eating them once the wagg crunch has gone. Just give it them slowly and they will get used to them.

Success, piggies are now tucking into pellets. Funny thing was they only started when I mixed the burgess in. They left that and ate the P@H pellets. :)

When I bought mine they'd been reared on Gerty and they were older than most young guinea pigs. It does take time to change them over to pellets but it IS possible. When you mix it with the Gerty of course they're still gonna pick out the bits they like but if you decrease the amount of Gerty gradually they'll slowly have to start eating the pellets - and surprisingly mine started to leave the Gerty.

It is advisable to try this a few times if it doesn't work the first time (after all you've bought the pellets) because eventually they WILL start eating them. However, the sooner you try this the better, the older they get the more they're set in their ways - I found this with my rabbit when we tried it with him after a year of having him, he refused to move across to pellets and is incredibly picky and now has a layer of his hutch covered in the food he chucks out of his bowl.

I'd love to know how to conquer this as i've tried numerous times to get mine off Wilko's food, which i suspect is Gerty.
I've mixed various foods at a 2:1 ratio; PAH nuggets, Wagg Optimum Pellets, Wagg Crunch, Tesco Muesli & Science Selective all to no avail - they were all losing weight & hardly touching their bowls.
