Have any of you had your GP wormed? I received my shampoo from gorgeousguineas.com and it mentions about keeping a health GP you should take them to the vet to have a vaccination against this?

I havent wormed any of mine excet one, i bought a herbal wormer because he was losing weight with no explanation so that was advsied on here.

But ive got 2 girls who are nearly 7years old and they have never been wormed.

I don't worm either of mine. I asked about this months ago, maybe even a year ago and there was very mixed opinions as to what should be done.

i am the same, i have GPs all my life and never had them wormed either. JKust thought it was odd and just wondered if anyone else had?!

There is NO vaccination against worms in gps, humans or other animals,.

Most of my pigs live to 6 or 7 yrs, sometimes older and I have never wormed.

Worms are very rare in gps,and are only seen in gps kept outside on grass/earth that has been contaminated by cats or dogs.Wild rodents, foxes etc can get worms but they are different to the ones that gps can get.

The type of worms that tortoises are prone to,can be passed on to gps,so if you keep pet tortoises they should be kept well away from ground that your gps use.I have tortoises myself, and they often have to be treated for worms, but they are kept in a seperate compound and not allowed on the lawn which I put my gps out on in good weather.

I have almost 30 years experience with gps and have never seen a piggy with worms.

thanks maryh i thought that too. Mayb GorgeousGuinea.com need to update their sheet they sent out!

I am always wary of web sites that sell online only. You do not know what is in the products .

Worming is more to rebalance the gut flora than to kill off the type of worms you would associate with cats and dogs.

Maryh it's true you do have to be careful but doesn't mean there aren't some good websites out there.

Many people use Gorgeous Guinea products, I do myself and they are fantastic.

Gorgeous guineas products are excellent and have saved many a piggy where vets have failed when it comes to skin conditions.

I don't worm my pigs, however. Never have and never will unless my vet tells me to.

thanks everyone, i am glad we are all in agreement, ive got to pop to vets at some point with Scruffy so I wll ask their opinion and report back once I have anything. I really dont know why they have it on their sheet then!

We did worm every three months or so because when we first had our boys that's what the general thing recommended at the time, but have come to the conclusion it's probably not necessary and it appears ideas have changed from that, so haven't had it done for a while, but do wash our pigs regularly in GG shampoos to help prevent skin conditions.
