Worried about bigpig Clover :(

My fluffy is, she was constantly in season, constantly aggressive and had gunk coming out her bits, no cysts found during spay but she's back to her old self now and has a lovely friendship with Princess after her bond with nugget couldn't be fixed šŸ˜ hoping nugget and marshmallow don't fully fall out at this point!
I bet she feels mufh happier now then. My Dot had a uterine tumour, so had the uterus removed and spayed whilst she was open. Yuk, I could have put that in a nicer way

Update: Clover has had a quick health check and her tummy is fine, soft and flabby and not painful, breathing fine, walking fine, her previously broken leg (which I check a lot) is fine... but there is an ear bite!
I think it's a miltary style coup for leadership by Blodwen because as soon as Clover was removed from the cage and placed in a big box of hay, grated sweet potato and bite size cucumber pieces, Clover relaxed a lot and started eating really gratefully like she's been starved all day (Clover is normally very skittish and suspicious about even taking treats away from the others) and Blod started charging around rumbling and mounting and seriously humping all the other piggies, Piggle's face got humped for a good 5 minutes and Piggle is normally quite dominant! We are going to keep Clover in a box for observation for another half hour but she is definitely eating fine away from her "friends" (Looking at you Blod the betrayer! I hope this is just a strong season because Theo got a nose bite on Wednesday too! And you look so innocent!).
Bloody piggy soap operas! Thank you everyone for your support, I was really worried this was a serious health thing, but I think it is just extreme piggy lady politics... though of course I will keep an eye on things in case Clover is really ill and that is what has prompted this herd boss takeover bid from Blod... but Clover has eaten an amazon delivery box full of hay and about 2 days worth of veg in the past half hour so I dont now think it is immediately life threatening :)

Glad it's not a health emergency, just piggy politics... At least you can get some sleep now!

Poor Clover, though! It may be worth having Blodwen checked for ovarian cysts, though - but you can do that a convenient time for you.

Yes I do wonder this as Blod has previously has an odd discharge from her lady bits a few months ago though it seemed to clear up with a course of baytril and she seems to always have a mucky bum and mucky grease gland... she's been to the vets twice for these things but nobody really thought of ovarian cysts as she is not quite 2 yet... we'll keep an eye on her and mention it to the vets at her next routine check up or if it persists take her in just to ask about this- usually she is a placid scaredy potato piggy but this latest season is a bit ferocious!

What is the chances of sows getting ovarian problems, like cysts? It's quite scary. It must be high else my vet wouldn't have spayed Dot whilst he was operating on another part of her insides

I'm so glad to see your updates this morning, I was really hoping she wasn’t ill. I’m so glad she is ok. Oh dear though, I hope Blod calms down soon and that if is just a season and not a deeper leadership issue. This all sounds very stressful. Give me teenage boar hormones any day! Keep us posted.

Sending love to Big Pig Clover. I hope she really has no underlying health issues and is able to sort out her herd and keep that naughty Blodwen in check! I hope Blod can have more peaceful seasons too, it's not nice being a Jekyll and Hyde with hormones!

Just spotted and read this thread.
Glad that the gorgeous big pig Clover is well but hormonal girls can be difficult.
Phoebe was still under 2 when she developed ovarian cysts and had to be spayed so it can happen to young pigs.

Ovarian cysts can start from about 18 months but in some cases even earlier. Typically we see the aggressive behaviour associated with ovarian cysts a bit later in live around 3-5 years but that doesn't mean that some sows can't start early or later...
In old age you are more often dealing with large non-hormonal fluid-filled cysts in my experience - or those cysts that can turn cancerous.

Thanks, yes its definitely worth another vet check if Blod gets like this a lot, but today she's back to being a submissive little sausage so hopefully it was just a strong season! Today she has that "but what did I do?" tired and confused hormone hangover look that we used to see with Piggle after her nightmare seasons when she was younger!

I have often found that sows with strong seasons when they are young seem to me more prone to developing hormonal cysts later on.

But hopefully things can settle down again. I hope that the sows will go back together.

Oh Blodwen, scaring your mummy with your hormones you naughty lady!
Glad Clover’s back to normal now, and the gang, and hope no more incidents! x

All quite calm and hay and scatterfed veggies have been shared very peacefully, but its clear that Blod and Clover are not on very friendly terms today because usually in the playpen they go nap in a box together- today Clover is on her own in a seagrass basket house and Blod is sharing a cardboard box with Theo, Piggle and Puggle aren't sure what to do so have opted for a wooden sticks hidey each rather than choose sides, but Jezzy is oblivious and floofy as usual and enjoying a lot of extra floor space and hay to herself while the bossy pigs avoid each other!
We are very lucky having a giant L-shaped C&C with at least 3 of everything so Clover and Blod can remain 6 or even 12 feet apart at all times if they like without really missing out on anything!

Puggle and Jezzy are being peace makers and taking it in turns to hang out with either Blod or Clover. But tonight Clover led the hayroom parade as usual while Blod hid under the same house Clover was hiding under yesterday! Everypig is eating lots anyway and I'm only seeing embarassment from Blod and a few "evil pig eye" looks from Clover so I think its all ok, for a while after the cage clean they were actually sat just 12 inches apart but very pointedly ignoring each other!

Piggies eh! Glad things seem calmer for you 😁

Well it was calm for about 12 hours, this morning big Clover herself has come into season and is rampaging around chasing Blod and giving her a good revenge humping! They both move very fast for a pair of chubsters and tipped all the breakfast bowls over, pellets and carrot slices everywhere! Puggle and Jezzy are enjoying the flying carrots :)
