While giving Dennis his health check tonight I found this .....
IMG_0355.webp

it is about 1cm above his willy. I didn't spot it last night. I can't take him to the vets tomorrow as I am going away early for the weekend! It looks nice and clean with no nasty gunk in evidence. I am so worried cos I won't be able to take him to the vets until Monday! My lovely neighbour is looking after my piggies while I am away but there is no way she can take him to the vet as she doesn't drive and her husband is a taxi driver on funny shifts. I am so worried! What should I do?

It's a bit difficult to see from the photo - what exactly is it?
It looks like a hole? Possible puncture wound?
I know it is gross, but how does it smell?
Maybe try bathing it in sterile saline?
Sorry - I don't really know what else to suggest, and I am sure someone with more experience will be along shortly.

It is a hole and it doesn't smell so I don't think it's an abscess. I have bathed it in cooled boiled water with a bit of salt added. He did object to my bathing it quite strongly as I expect it stung a bit. My son was holding him and Dennis was quite wriggly. There was a bit of blood that came from the wound but not so much that I need to be worried only a bit on the cotton wool really.

Sorry I wasn't on last night, no idea why it was saying I was. Maybe was logged in on my phone. I think it looks either like a puncture wound or an abscess that has burst but you would have noticed the smell if it was that. Are they eating ok? Is your neighbour able to bathe it to keep it clean?

Oh, poor guy! It is draining anything? I would wonder if a small abscess or cyst has burns (abscesses smell awful, but a sebaceous cyst wouldn't necessarily have a strong odor.) It seems like an odd place for a bite wound. Is the skin around it health and has he been scratching (i.e. a self-inflicted bite due to itching?)

I am now away for the weekend but before I left I had a good look at the wound. The skin around it looks healthy and it doesn't smell. May have been a puncture wound.
