My daughters Guinea pig started Wheezing last night and coughing this morning. I called my local vet only to find out the only vet within a 50 mile radius that would see him no longer lives/works here. She moved to the bay area. Now I have no where to take our little guy to get checked out. I tried to do those online vets but none have responded. Idk what else to do.

It could be a upper respiratory infection, so if you could find out a good antibiotic for it, you can get some from a regular vet, but they will have to have a look at your guinea pig first. This is what I have done before, and it worked. I'm only saying this because you have no other option.

Nothing you do at home will work

Your guinea pig needs to see a vet for a diagnosis and the correct antibiotic treatment.

He definitely needs a vet, any vet asap. Respiratory issues can be very serious in piggies , they can go downhill very quickly

Just got done talking to a vet online. From what symptoms given to the vet, we found out it is just his allergies.

I’d be incredibly sceptical about trusting an online diagnosis. It is almost impossible to tell anything without a hands on examination, a description of symptoms is very rarely enough to make a definitive diagnosis. Without a vet physically listening to his chest to check his lungs sound clear, there is simply no way of knowing whether it could be allergies or something more serious such as the start of a URI which would require antibiotics.

I have to agree on this. Sorry

Whereabouts do you live, if we knew we might be able to find you a suitable vet, allergies in piggies are rare, your piggie needs to see a vet for a hands on diagnosis

Please check this link and see if you can find a vet near you. Piggy really needs to have a physical check. Hopefully you weren’t charged too much.
