Worried About My Daisy

Just catching up on this thread as others have said you are a credit to Daisy.

Our eldest girl has Jaw Arthritis, we have to feed her separately as she is slow at eating and she is on metacam twice a day and doing well.

Lots of love and healing vibes to Daisy

Ah thank you, I am glad to know that your little girl is doing well. I have some questions to ask you (if that is ok) I am not experienced in this and desperately need to learn and find out more.

1) Has she had to have frequent dentals or does the metacam help to keep that under control?
2) I am assuming that the metacam is for long term use and ongoing? how much is your girl on?
3) What special changes did you have to make in her diet to help her?
4) How many times a day do you have to separately feed? and is that both pellets and veggies?

I have been trying her with a mix of soaked SS pellets and with critical care and she quite likes it.
Is this something that could be given on a day-to-day basis?

Sorry for all the questions!

Never apologise for questions :) In answer to the above...

1) Cookie had 2 dental's before the jaw Arthritis and bone spur was found. The last dental was in August (touch wood it is going well)
2) She is nearly 5 so we have weighed up the cons of long term metacam usage and Cookie's quality of life is the key her so she will be on it forever now. She is on 0.1ml twice a day after discussion with our vet.
3) We have had to cut everything like pepper, carrot and cucumber in stripes quite thinly, she can manage herbs quite well now.
4) She comes out for veggies breakfast and evening and sits on the sofa eating with us :) She eats pellets and hay fine in the cage, she is separated purely because what the others eat in 4 minutes takes Cookie around 10 min

When Cookie first recovered from her dental and the bone spur and Arthritis was found she was struggling to eat, she went on Steroids for a while to get inflammation down and help her adapt. We were topping her up with mushed up pellets via syringe at this stage. It certainly will not help supplementing Daisy with CC and Pellets, alternating is good so they don't get bored either.

Thank you so much, that is very useful and helpful.

My vet is John Chitty - http://antonvets.co.uk/exotics/189-2/

We weigh her daily as well to make sure she is keeping stable she fluctuates around the 1kg mark now give or take 30g. She used to be 1.120g before all the dental trouble but she is elderly around 5 but as a rescue piggy you can never be sure.
