My guinea pig Chico passed away this week. He was like a son to me and I love him so much. I'll never stop missing him. I don't know if I want a guinea pig ever again due to how close our bond was. I feel like it would be a betrayal to him since he is irreplaceable. I don't know if I'm the only one feeling this way.

Hey, be kind to yourself. Everyone feels this way when they lose a pet. You are not alone.

If you want more then do so when you feel ready, in time other pets will work their way into your heart

I am very sorry for your loss

Does he leave a friend behind? If so it's not a case of replacing him rather doing what it takes to meet his friends needs.

If not the time will come for you to fall in love again. Guinea pigs are such individuals you won't be replacing chico they'll find their own space in your heart. If he doesn't leave a friend behind then you have all the time in the world, let yourself heal and go easy on yourself. He was special, that will never change. Other piggies or other pets in general will be a different kind of special.

The way you feel is natural and part of grieving.
You will never replace Chico, but you may find, when grief is less raw that you have more than enough love for more piggies.
They will be successors, not replacements.
Feel free to post a tribute to Chico on the Rainbow Bridge thread

Firstly be kind to yourself and give yourself as much time as you need to grieve.
There is no set time on this - everyone is different.

Human Bereavement: Grieving, Coping and Support Links for Guinea Pig Owners and Their Children

I have had many animals over the years, and I have never replaced a single one.
Sometimes a special animal passing opens a space for a new one, but no one gets replaced. Their place in my heart and life is always just for them.
Only you will know what is right for you.

:agr: with the other posts. Take your time to grieve his passing, and when the time is right it will not be a betrayal to bring another piggy into your home and into your heart. The heart has an endless capacity for love, and you can love many piggies in one lifetime.

Don't feel guilty if you decide you want to share your life with new piggies, they will make their own new rooms in your heart - it really is big enough! Chicos room will always be his own 💜

Thank you. I'll have to convince myself but also make sure the time is right.
