I'm a fairly new piggy slave, so still learning. I have booked my 4 piggies in for a general health check with Ashleigh Vets, Chorlton (from the recommended list). I am going on holiday soon for 19 days and wanted to make sure they are all in good health before I go.

I have two things I wanted ask. Firstly, how often should I take my piggies for a health check (I assume it is generally a good idea) and secondly, does anyone have experience of using this particular vetinerary practice (is their a specific vet I should ask for?).

I don't get mine health checked but that is just personal preference. It is entirely up to you how often you get them checked if you are wanting regular checks.

Just wanted to help with the vet side. I have used that vets before and they are very good with guinea pigs. It doesn't matter who you see as long as you ask for an exotics vet. They are all great with the piggies. I have seen 2 different vets at the practice and rate both of the ones I saw.

@YvonneBlue I don't bother with yearly health checks. I always get them health checked when I adopt them (and once the vet found a nasty lump so I always recommend it). And then they go when they need to. Some of them have seen the vet regularly but that's usually when they're being monitored whilst on medication.

I don’t get mine checked yearly either, I think if you monitor them properly: weigh once a week, check there teeth, coat and feel for any lumps or bumps and then if you find anything book them into the vets.

So my piggies had their health check today. The vet was very thorough, much to the piggies disgust.

Mavis and Peggy were very good for the vet. They are a little overweight, which I already knew (they were when we got them) and they have a bit of dry skin on their feet. Other than that they are very healthy.

Dora and Ginger were a bit more feisty and the poor vetinerary nurse struggled to keep a hold of them. Thankfully, they were both given a clean bill of health.

However, now they all hate me. No wheeking when I took the veggies in tonight and no happy piggy faces waiting for me. Hope they forgive me soon.
