He stopped peeing around yesterday and his poos are very very small. He has been on ChlorPalm for a week now out of the two weeks he is supposed to take it. He is 8 months old and I'm scared what do now. I don't think we can afford surgery to remove them and they don't seem to be going away after a week of antibiotics. Our old guinea pig who died named Didi also had stones but the antibiotics I guess flushed them out and everything was ok. We're feeding him through a syringe. He used to pee blood but now he doesn't at all. What can we do? We don't want to lose him but we don't want him to be in pain either! Should we wait it out a bit more? He sometimes eats by himself but not today. He hunches up when he has to pee/poo and squeals but nothing comes out. I'm really scared and sad for him.

Things often get worse before they get better.. all you can do for now is comfort him, and monitor the situation.. I suggest you try and get him to the vets in the morning, just to get him checked over if your worried..even if it's just to give me a piece of mind..
Poor piggie, he sounds sore, have you tried giving him dandelion leaves? They're a diuretic, and should help him go for a wee :)
Oh, and get him some probiotics (does come in powder form) you can sprinkle it on his fav foods, to help his belly :)
Pro-c Probiotic.. came from P@H ;)

I'm just worried at the fact that he can't pee and he can barely poo. As I said, I don't think we can afford surgery to remove the stones :( His stomach seems more tense/bloated than my other guinea pig. What can I do?!

Sorry about double post, we just realized he has recently gotten a mouth infection because it smells if you smell his face area. We were told at a pet world that if you put water and salt on a cotton swab, open his mouth and just wipe it around gently to kill bacteria. He is also acting lethargic now :( I think I'll wake up tomorrow and he won't be with me anymore :( He's in pain from eating because of the mouth infection and he can't pee or poo.

What kind of hay are you feeding? If you're still feeding some form of alfalfa hay, this could potentially be a trigger to the stones.

Sorry to hear about your situation, just remain hopeful and happy for the memories you've made and what the future may hold!

If he is hunched and not eating it means he is in pain. The stones may have moved so he now has a blockage. In my opinion, he needs a vet ASAP, too give him the best chance I imagine he will need surgery.

Guys fantastic news! We called our vet and he told us to put rice in a sock and heat it up to put it under his stomach, so we did and gave him a little pillow for his front paws and his head so he's comfy. We massaged his stomach and a huge thick poo came out! Now he's constipating it all out and the poo is coming. We will visit the vet tomorrow about his issue with peeing, but all the poo that was in his stomach is slowly coming out, please wish me luck! We have tons of hope now, he's not in pain anymore. He was on baytril and chlorpalm 250. God I'm so happy for him. His eyes are big instead of looking half asleep and he is no longer lethargic. We are going to continue to feed him through the syringe and we will go to a small animal specialist tomorrow morning.

Welcome to the forum, I am sorry to hear Yogi has been so unwell. Can I just ask, how were the bladder stones diagnosed? What were his symptoms?

Glad to hear he is not struggling to poop any more, sounds like you got very lucky there, the heat and massage will have helped, quite probably saved him. Is he peeing yet?

A lack of urine and faeces - anything less than normal - is often down to not eating and drinking enough. You say you are syringe feeding him, how much and how often are you feeding him?

As he is on both Baytril and ChlorPalm (chloramphenicol), both being antibiotics, a probiotic given an hour or two after the antibiotics may help to prevent certain side effects like digestive upsets. Whereabouts are you? If you're in the US, there is a probiotic called Bene-bac for Mammals, I have used this and found it very helpful, and it is very easy to administer.

Guys, unfortunately last night I woke up to go to the bathroom, so I checked on him before I went back to bed and he wasn't alive anymore :( Things were getting better but not fast enough. He finally got all the poo out but the pee that wouldn't come out I'm assuming poisoned him. We were going to go to the vet today :( Rest in peace yogi. He was loved so much his last day. We spent the whole day massaging, petting, and kissing him. We made his home very comfy when we put him in his cage. R.I.P baby. Our older guinea pig peep is going to need a lot of attention now. :( He was only 8 months old, poor baby. But he was loved so much his last days and he knew that we loved him very much. It's sad he couldn't have made it through this night but I'm sure he died knowing we all loved him. R.I.P YOGI, I'll never forget you! :(((:(:(:(:(

I am sorry for your loss. I hope that Peep is OK?

RIP Yogi

Awe, what a shame :( At least you made him more comfortable towards the end.. sending you hugs ((((((())))))
