Hi all..

I'm being a paranoid mummy again, Yogi had his teeth filed down almost a week ago. He's been getting some critical care syringe fed to him to supplement what he has been able to eat by himself. He was improving, starting to eat more fresh veggies and bigger chunks of it. His weight was maintaining at a steady number now hes losing a bit. He's still a healthy weight but I want to figure things out before he goes down any further.
Since yesterday morning he seems once again unwilling to eat a lot, and all he will eat from his veggie bowl are carrots.
Is it something that is normal after a dental thing? Can they have good and bad days? I am worried about giving him so much carrot as well but its all he wants to eat?

I am waiting on my vet calling me back to get their opinion too :(

It usually takes more than one round of filing until teeth work well again. Please start hand feeding again and top him up with as much as he will take. Chop up any veg.

Also check for the potential of jaw abscesses; they often start out with loss of appetite before anything else becomes visible.

thanks :)

I am taking him back to the vets this evening just to get checked up on everything again. I hope its nothing and just him still in recovery mode...

If he isn't eating then the teeth will already be starting to overgrow again. What exactly did the vet do to the teeth when he had the dental? Were they growing across the tongue? Where they rubbing the cheeks? How much ulceration and soft tissue damage, if any, was I the mouth?

He had an ear infection earlier this year, and due to the pain he started eating only one side on his mouth so then the molar on the other started to grow over his tounge and his two front teeth started over growing at angles. They put him under GA and burred his teeth down, along with his front ones. They said there was no ulcers or lacerations before or after.
For a few days after he found picking food up difficult. He started eating a bit better but he wasn't eating any hay.
I'm just back from the vet and it seems he's blocked up a bit. He's got three different meds to take for a few days, one to get his digestion going, one to stop his tummy hurting and pain relief. I hope he bounces back with the help form these, he had some an he ago and already seems a bit livelier.
