hi!
Did you use young guinea pig food when your piggies were under six months? Mine haven't been so far and I was debating getting some but then read you need to transition them on to new food. They are at least 14 weeks old so I'm not sure whether to buy a pack as I think they are meant to stop having it at six months?
Thanks in advance x

I got special guinea pig food when my first 3 were babies (under 6 months old).
They hated it, and within a week or so (well before the bag was even half empty) they stopped eating ti all together!
I switched them to a regular guinea pig food, and continued with daily fresh veg and unlimited hay.

When Oreo arrived (10 weeks old but living with 6 month + guinea pigs) I never even bothered with a special baby food.
So I guess this is the long way of saying I personally wouldn't bother.
Just feed a good, balanced diet and they will be fine.

Thanks for your reply! I thought them now eating them may happen tbh. Mine aren't keen on pellets anyway I don't think - they barely eat them. Which ones do yours like? Xx

Their favorite pellet was discontinued, so I now keep them on 2 different ones (just in case).

They will all happily eat;
Versele-Laga Cavia Complete (my personal choice as it is grain free)
and
Vitakraft Guinea Pig Complete.

Having said that the Vitakraft pellets have once again worryingly disappeared off of all the online shops I usually order from.
It is still available in my local pet shop, but I do wonder if it is yet another Vitakraft product that is due to be discontinued.

At Tees Valley Guinea Pig Rescue we tend to give baby guinea pigs Burgess Excel with Blackcurrant & Oregano or Harringtons Optimum Guinea Pig Food as these are the smallest of the branded pellets. We also feed them Oxbow Alfalfa Hay :) x

Ate you talking pellets? Mine have been on pellets since we got them. We now have three and no room for more but they are 8 weeks and 5 weeks.

I gave mine oxbow young guinea pig food until they were 5 months as they ran out and there was no point buying another bag just for them to eat for a month. I switched them over to oxbow adult guinea pig food as it is timothy hay based. They have loved both.

We didn't feed specific pellets for babies when the girls were little. They started on Burgess blackcurrant and now have the mint ones.

Thanks everyone, really helpful answers. I'm looking for a pellet they really like, although both have put on 30g this first week I've had them which is ideal. Xx
