Hey everyone...

I was wondering if there is a spray or somthing that you can get to spray on the bars of the cages so the guineas wont chew on it?
All the pigs do this and when I'm trying to sleep it really isnt helpful! ;D

Thanks! :)

I used to have this problem. My solution was to put a pillow over my head. Then I realised it was Gus making the most noise so now I clip his vet bed higher up the grids instead of just having it on the floor. Sorry I don't know about any spray, though you could probably get some bitter lemon or something that might work.

I wouldn't personally use anything. Icey bites the front of her cage a lot and just let her get on with it O0 lol

max bits the forunt of his cage to mainly around meal times or if he wonts to go out in the gardan

bitter beak/bite from pah is good. i used it when one of my rats decided to eat the base of my brand spanking new cage >:( also you can get puppy deterant in supermarkets its the exact same :)

Good luck! My piggies have never bit the bars thankfully, would be soo annoyed if they did. What bedding do you use? If you use fleece/towels/vetbed/something similar you could try and clip it up the bars so they can't get to it so easily?

before you go to bed put in hay and crunch bits, or take out any chew toys during the day and put them in just before you go to bed, sounds like the little minx is doing it for attention ;D

or put food eg carrot on the places he knaws most ;)

But if the piggies are chewing the bars and you shove a carrot threw, once the carrot is gone they will still chew the bars because they smell/taste of carrot :D

:D they chew all the sides off the cage anyway... so they would get really fat if there was carrot all over the cage ;D

I just use newspaper... I dont have enough towels because they make so much mess ;D

I did have black plastic cliped up around the outside edges but they ended up making great big bite marks in that too! ;D

Agree, I wouldn't personally use anything. BW what do you think the reasons they are doing it for? :)

Er... possibly boredom... and alos to try to get to the girls ;D
I dont know how to entertain them though :-/ I have a ball in there, with a bell inside but cant think of anything else ?

I thought boredom would be one of the reasons. It is hard trying to keep them entertained. Putting loads of things to hide in, run through, climb on and run around is a good way of keeping them busy. Also making them work for their food, hide some carrot in the middle of a toilet roll etc and changing things around in the cage every other day, as well as chews. You have probably tried these things, if not give them a go just before you go to bed. I will let you know if I think of other ways to keep them entertained. O0

:) thanks... ill do that now... have to extend the cage to fit more stuff in perhaps too ;D

;D that sounds like a good idea ;D

heres a few pigtures of what I just did :D

Boys Cage with poppy kindly saying hello ;D
The 2 boxes are joined trough a hole :)

Girls cage:
The box in the middle has 1 hole on each side and one in the middle so they/I can peek in/out ;D

The door isnt able to close atm as it is cable tied to make sure of no escape ;D

Cindy proudly volunteered to model the girls night house:

Did you notice how I have double girds along the middle of the cages?
The babies kept trying to shove their heads through the grids so I crossed 2 over to make sure they couldnt :)

Perhaps they just want something to gnaw at? Mine have a small wooden hut inside their hutch and they chew at that quite a bit. Perhaps it keeps their teeth down or something?

Wow , i like the girls night room ! Thats such a good idea - i was in the middle of saying you should cover the bars but it looks like you have found a good solution!

Well, mine are outside - and they are so big and heavy now, I can only really manage one at a time. So when transferring them back into their hutch, after being in the run all day, the first one in goes straight to the bars and starts nibbling it to get to the other one! But the funniest bit is when you put the other one in, and the one who was biting the bars doesn't seem to be bothered and leaves her alone!

Silly things...
