lol well this post started off depressing and finishing off making me laugh! Thanks everyone x Thats what is so great about this forum! :))

Picked up my little Buffy last night, she was fine and quite perky. Vedra is fantastic, she managed to remove the stone with a tiny incension without the need for stitches, I could hardly see the mark! The stone was about as big as a baked bean! She is still struggling to eat on her own but she is desperate too eat but her teeth won't allow her to chew, so I'm still syringe feeding and she hates it.

When we got home last night as soon as we walked through the front door our pigs started squeeking for their dinner and then Buffy started squeeking, bless her. Hopefully her front teeth will start to grow soon, will keep you all posted.

Thanks everyone again x

Keeping my fings crossed for the little lady :)

Thank goodness you were able to get her to Vedra.

Yes but not all vets are bad, it is down to us to find the right treatment for our animals. I know vets here who are experienced in birds and rabbits but not pigs.

Thankfully I was reccomended a vet by Nutmeg, Anne and Dave (from another forum) they are fantastic with pigs.

Louise glad she is getting over the worst. Big hugs, hope you are ok, not spoke to you in a while. x

The vet we took marble to was brill he was great and his vets specialize in small animals thats why we took him there.

Ah glad to hear it Trudy, th eone we took Cuzzy too was just guessing, I'm glad I have a reliable vet now. You find that different vets at each practise are good at one thing and another may be good at something else which is great. :)

I was really worried when I got in from work last night, Buffy hadn't really moved since I left her in the morning and none of the food or water had been touch. She was very quiet, so I spent most of the night patiently syringe feeding/watering her (she hates it), chopping up tiny bits of veg and fruit which she liked to lick. She really wants to eat herself but after a few chews she just gives up, its heart breaking to watch. Does anyone know how long it will take for her front teeth to grow?

This morning she seemed a bit better and had managed a tiny nibble of a tomato, I really hope she can start to eat herself soon, she is soo tiny now, I weighed her last night and she is 615grms :...

The incisors grow about 2mm per week.
You must persist in offering her "proper" food in order that she has something to chew/grind to keep her back teeth worn down. What are you giving her by syringe?

Am not able to offer much in the way of suggestions on this, but have you tried finely grated carrot?

Best of luck to you and Buffy - must be v stressful. x

Yeah I have been offering her everything, cucumber, tomato, brocilli, melon, grape, corriander (her fav), carrot, hay but she just can't manage to chew it with her front teeth.

I have been syringing her pony pellets that Vedra gave me, they have to be soaked in water over night, also with Oxbox, critical care. She gets very stressed when I syringe feed her. Should I try and force small pieces of veg to her back teeth? I'm not sure what to do now! 8...

I think she has about half a centimetre gap! so that will be over 2 weeks!:...:...:...

Make the syringe food thick enough so that she has to make some attempt at chewing it, there is no need to cut the end off the syringe.
You can cut a strip of carrot or other fibrous food and hold it in her mouth so that she chews it, even if she doesn't swallow the food. Always make sure that both before and after syringe feeding her mouth has no food in it.

"I think she has about half a centimetre gap! so that will be over 2 weeks!"

Patience is, indeed, a virtue.

I have tried strips of carrot and brocilli but she pulls it away with her feet! I'll just have to be patient, if in doubt I'll take her back to Vedra to make sure her back teeth are not growing too much. I'm just worried about the journey for Buffy, its over an hour from me.

It can take time, but as my piggy, Poppet, has proved, even after 10 1/2 months, it is possible to get them eating again. I used to moisten the Pets at Home nuggets for Pops. I would poor boiling water over them and then let them cool down. She could then manage them ok. I would also pick grass and cut it into really small pieces and sprinkle that over the nuggets. That seemed to encourage her to chew more.

Lou I am so sorry to hear about Buffy.

Teeth are funny ones, one of my piggies teeth came out whilst eating a carrot (they just got stuck in there! poor little darling, he was old though) and he got through it fine in the end.

Its all a bout patience, they hate the syringing but you have to try and battle through it - its good sign shes wanting to eat/drink and is squeeking, if something was seriously wrong, shes wouldnt even attempt!

Sending healing hugs to Buffy and hope you are okay hun

x

Just try and be patient... easier said than done I know...

Same problem happened to me with Fuzzypeg's tooth. See if you can find the thread 'Yellow Tooth'. I just had to be patient and the front teeth do grow pretty quickly...

Fuzzypeg started off with the syringe, then tiny pieces of soft food, then strips of hard food, and eventually he was finally able to eat his favourite... corn on the cob.

Sending healing vibes...

Buffy seemed much better when I got in last night and she has managed to eat the CC mix I'd left her. She seems to have accepted the fact of syringe feeding too but after 5/6 half syringes she point blank refuses! She is enjoying licking inside of cherry toms and grapes. Also she has started using her water bottle this morning. yeahhh :)

What a relief for you!

Come on, Buffy, be a good piggie!

Good news, Buffy has put on 35grms, she is now 650grms. She is managing to get on her own now too but I am still syringe feeding her. :)

That's brilliant! She'll get there!
