I would clean it with F10 rather than a generic hutch cleaner. F10 is a vet grade disinfectant which will kill fungus. You can get it from Amazon and it comes either in ready to use spray bottles or a concentrated form which you dilute yourself (works out cheaper in the diluted form).
You can find a list of things that rabbits can transmit to guinea pigs in this guide here: Guinea Pigs And Rabbits - Why Not
Best do a very thorough deep clean with a vet grade disinfectant when using a second-hand rabbit hutch.
Hi!
Please see a vet first to close out any medical issues (cystitis etc.).
When that has been ruled out, then please examine their bedding and care:
- What housing are they in (hutch/cage) and what bedding are they on?
- How often do you change it?
- What cleaner/disinfectant are you using...
Hi!
Please give 3-5 days of itrafungol the other three in order to prevent an outbreak in the not yet acute but likely already infected companions; the itrafungol will get to any infected part on the skin so they should never come down with it.
Deep clean their hutch twice: once at the start...
Thanks
Thank you my lovely. Am at vet now, Fudge has ringworm and the others don’t have an outbreak yet but all are being treated with intrafungol - you’re right it isn’t cheap lol! But worth every penny if it gets my girls healthy. I’m going to deep clean the hutch and keep squeak and bubble...
That is not quite true like this. Please only post in the H/I section if you have correct information about the specific question or can contribute personal experiences. Our aim is to be supportive, give factually correct information and not to panic any visitors unnecessarily with our personal...
I’m having a bit of a dilemma at the moment and I’m honestly torn.
I have kept all of my Guinea pigs indoors and they’ve all occupied my bedroom- a nice warm room that I frequent so they get human interaction loads and I can cuddle them as much as I want lol. I love having them next to...
Please don't separate as you need to treat both anyway since infection has most likely already happened. The incubation period (the period between infection and acute outbreak is about 10-14 days.
Please follow the detailed tips in our ringworm hygiene guide, which also covers transmission to...
Had our 2 nine week old piggy sisters for only 10 days and unfortunately the vet has diagnosed ringworm in one of them. Both are being treated with oral medication as have decided separation maybe too stressful.
I have bought F10 disinfectant for cleaning out, but now not sure how use this on a...
Thank you for everybody's help. I tried giving them a canopy and moving them to a cooler room but nothing seemed to stop Pebbles! My biggest concern was him sitting in his wee (especially as a long haired guinea pig, he kept getting really sticky). In the end I've put a waterproof sheet between...
Hey all! I’m looking for bonding advice.
I had two pairs of sows. They shared a two story house - one floor each (it was blocked off so they couldn’t see each other.)
I’ve spent the whole day bonding. There was some chasing, nipping and a lot of terrified shrieks!
I have one really...
Hi, it would be impossible for us to diagnose from a photo alone even if we were trained vets. It could be fur mite egg casings but it could be dry skin. Ivermectin products should not be used routinely as a preventative measure, all that seems to do is build up a resistance to the product in...
Thank you so much! I will definitely keep you all updated 😊. I've just given him his first dose of the Panacur (he wasn't impressed at all!), But at least he's got some medicine now. Ah ok I'll query about the metacam tomorrow and see what they advise (thankfully I work at the vet clinic). I'm...
That's good. I'm glad treatment has started. If the vet hasn't prescribed it I would ask for some Metacam as it can sometimes help with the wobbling! My bunnies made a full recovery and all symptoms disappeared completely. I'm hoping the same will happen for your bunny. As for whether he could...
Hi and welcome
Please take the time to read our grieving guide and contact a pet bereavement service (there are some free numbers) if you feel safer with talking to a non-judgmental trained stranger.
It is important for yourself that you talk through your issues so you can turn your feelings...
Hi!
Sadly anybody can call themselves a rescue or a breeder without any licensing and control. The results are accordingly; especially when they two mix. Always do your research first. it very much sounds like you have ended up with one of the hell holes.
Please also be aware that 'reputable'...
Thanks for your help. My regular vet is an exotics specialist and highly rated rabbit vet so I expected her to be GP savvy. I asked about EC as a friend of mine has had it in the past with her rabbit. I also asked about a stroke as when I spoke to the rescue they were certain (without seeing...
Hi I am the guinea pig mother of a three-year old Texel (ish) boar. The 'ish' is because he seems to be a bit of everything... About a year ago he showed the first symptoms of scratching, particularly around the legs and hindquarters, as well as biting and tearing at his fur along the chest and...
Hi, hoping someone can help. My girls were moved inside about a month or so ago because it’s cold and damp up here in Glasgow, but my problem now is how to care for an empty outdoor hutch. I covered it completely last winter with a hutch cover and tarp by it ended up so mouldy I had to chuck it...
