    Poop question

Not before she had her abscess and teeth issues. She’s eating everything fine now and I’ve not changed the pellets. Only thing I’ve changed is lots more Timothy hay and oat grass. She’s also on quite a few meds but I think they looked smoother until recently. She’s happy grazing and eating...

    Is blossom dangerous if eaten?

We have a tree in next doors garden that is shedding blossom all over our grass. Will it harm the piggies if they eat some whilst grazing?

Mum doesn't want to get a bigger hutch?

The reason we want one with a run on the bottom is so he can graze all day and we don't have to have a run as our garden is unbelievably small But my mum now says we will keep it on the concrete and pick grass. I don't really see the point in this. But I will put him in the old hutch tomorrow

    Grass V Hay

The girls have been enjoying time on the grass recently ( British weather permitting ! ) However i notice that after grazing they do not eat as much hay as when they are "house bound". Is this likely to cause digestive problems?

    Amount of veggies everyday

So guinea pigs won't be eating the veggies if they are full right? Because I see my guinea pigs always just finishes the veggies I give them everytime in a short amount of time, so I'm concerned if they just eat whatever they find because in nature it would be hard for them to always find food...

    Amount of veggies everyday

No it’s not possible for them to ever have too much hay. It is 80% of their daily food intake, they need to be grazing on hay constantly for dental and gut health. It’s their main food source. If they don’t eat hay, they will be unwell. They need to be filling up on hay and then having veg...

    Microphthalmia

They love their hay thank goodness. We have two big piles of hay in their pen. They graze all day at it. And the hand feeds are fewer and fewer so looks like it’s all going in the right direction. Little one also seems to be dealing with veggies better by the day. The sight issues were a big...

    More Grass Questions

yes, I’m sure that will be absolutely fine as a lawn, sounds like it will be nice and thick and durable. I used to graze my hens on the lawn and they certainly need something durable 😆

    Possible jawline abscess

Thank you very much. It sounds exactly right, they are now blunt and rough and were previously smooth. I don’t actually think they were an issue. The vet is young and also has rabbits, so there we have it! Fortunately Biscuit put up a fight so she didn’t get much cutting done. I did check when I...

    Brown mark on nose

My 6 month old male guinea had a brown mark on the top of his nose. It wiped off with damp cotton wool yesterday with no indication from him it was sore but the patch does seem to be bald. The brown crust has come back this morning, could this be a fungal infection? There’s no redness and...

Lawn overrun with moss, is it poisonous to piggies and how can I get rid of it safely?

The past few days have been lovely piggie weather here, sadly temps are set to go down now, but I'm glad my 5 girls got a little time to graze for the first time in nearly 2 years. I'm not sure why but suddenly my lawn is becoming overrun with moss, there are only a few good patches of grass...

    my heart is broken

I'm so sorry for your loss, that's awful! Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to know for sure. For two to pass away so close together I would wonder about something environmental? Was the area well-ventilated? Did they eat anything new? Is there another animal in the house that could...

    Wish me luck

It’s so stressful watching for a new bond. Seeing if the lonely white youngster will be able to join my 3 older sows. 1 hour in and my top 2 and the new lady are interacting + grazing reasonably politely. My oldest Wenlock who is my bottom ranked sow has mostly been keeping out of the way.

    Poop question

The pellets could reflect the fact that your piggy is eating more or different hay. If you ware worried, take her off any fresh food for 24 hours and see whether the poos are starting to normalise or not. It could be a very mild tummy upset.

Black dots on both Guinea pigs

...out later that they only cause a problem in damp houses and we have a very old one! They are veggie and avoid people and animals - they graze on algae that grows on damp dust so I felt really great about my housekeeping skills. They didn't swarm but I kept seeing them here and there... only...

(Long Post) Is this normal? What can I do?

To be honest, I think it did change throughout their lives until Asu passed away. In the beginning after the group was originally "completed" with Minka's addition it seemed like it was that Kiri seemed to be the most dominant one, followed by Asu, Minka and then Milky. I moved apartments a year...

    Wish me luck

Still quite a lot of chasing going on. Youngster is actively avoiding my top sow, getting out of the way of number 2. She will join the mob around a scattering of tasty treats. Agatha the rex, top pig of the run. Idealy I need to move onto the next stage before it rains at teatime. Such...

    Blood in urine mystery

...(0.1ml of calpol and 5mg of gabapentin I think it was, didn’t seem to ease much). The vet hasn’t suggested the syringe feeding but I will start if you think that will help (she has still got an appetite strangely, will come up to me for veg, eating hay, will graze on grass if out outside)

Minimum guinea pig cage size is too small?

Not a hamster mum but as I understand it hamsters are awake exploring throughout the night and maintain energy throughout this time and need a lot of space and toys to keep them entertained throughout this time. Guinea pigs tend to sleep/ lounge about a lot then have a few minuites of energy...

what temperature do you bring your piggies in at?

yes i can’t wait until i can put them out on the lawn but they’ve only had handfed grass so far so can’t rely on leaving them outside because i dony want to over do the grass! i’ve also read to cut out fresh grass if a pigs got a UTI so i can’t even start with 15 minutes! typical as its such...
