    Badly matted fur

Hi everyone. I have a real problem with one of my pigs. When I let the kids pick 2 they choose long hair breeds. As a first time owner I thought nothing of this. They need brushed a lot but princess has really long hair that if left grows very long at the back & sides. Her top & sides are fine &...

    Grooming schedule

Yes the legs look so different to short hair, could imagine them being a wee trap. Many thanks.

Need help piggie all of a sudden terrified of being handled.

This is my first long-haired piggy Louise, before and after a haircut I was told her previous owner kept piggies for shows so I assumed she would either enjoy or at least be used to brushing and combing. She enjoys laptime but when the brush first appeared her eyes went wide and white - I...

    Matted floof

Lol aw poor Betsy. I saw the blind piggies at TEAS running round in circles and can imagine they'd not like a grooming assault 😊 I'll do the same with our floofs.

    Matted floof

Three of mine are long haired. I never brush them, just chop off any mats or wet skirts round their back end as they occur. Cherry blossom and her smooth coated sister, Rosie, Mistletoe (cream and white, just after a trim) and neutered boar, Cufflinks ( just after a trim).

    Guinea pigs acting weird?

Here in the UK the vet checks over healthy piggies using non-intrusive methods. So if piggies come in with no symptoms they will check the skin and fur, the ears, the teeth, the nails and such. They weigh the pigs and ask about their age (sometimes we can only guess!) and how they eat/poop...

    Itchy Martin

Thank you. I don't think he can reach. Its right near his scent gland area but then again he seems to be itchy all over. We are going to do a hack job on him ready for summer and hopefully that will make him more comfy and easier for us to spot any issues. 🙂

    Long hair care in Texels

I've just rehomed a pair of what are likely Texel sows, with beautiful soft, wavy/curly hair. Until now, we have had our Abyssinian and our possible Teddy (although she has a very curly back end, and wavy hair on the rest of her, so perhaps she's part Texel too?). We've been using a metal comb...

    Scabby dry skin

Hi and welcome Unfortunately, without a well-lit and crisp picture plus an idea of where on the body the problem is located, we cannot even start to guess; just based on your description. Please use the 'Attach files' button under your new post to upload the picture as some formats are not...

If you have a wee pants piggy

She needs a proper wash usually every couple of weeks I’d say with times where it’s needed every week so I’m glad to hear that it’s a normal amount of time between washes and trims. Main sleeping area changed every night. She’s always had a mucky bum but can’t reach under very easily now. She...

My piggie won't let me touch or groom her 😢😢

Hi! Use our piggy whispering tips to make friends with her and establish your dominance as the herd leader. This is making things a bit easier. Most long-haired piggies hate having their hair brushed or cut has having hair pulled is not a pleasant experience. I prefer to give mine a regular...

    ?mites or lice

If they're just brushing off it might not be lice egg-casings because I think these are glued onto the hairs even when empty. Some piggies can get dry, flaky skin but I have no experience of this. I don't wash or shampoo mine and now the long-haired one has had a summer trim we don't even...

My piggie won't let me touch or groom her 😢😢

Hi My Guinea pigs are 10 months old. For the last month or so one of them won't let me touch her or stroke her. She has always hated sitting on my lap but she didn't mind me stroking her until recently. They are long haired Peruvians so I have to brush them regularly. She won't let me touch her...

    Long haired brushing tips

I trim all my long haired four. They all loathe it but loathed being brushed and combed even more! Lucky Rosie doesnt have to worry, being short haired.

    Grooming

It’ll take time but it is so important to get into a routine of weighing them every week. It is the only way to be sure they are eating enough hay and can be so useful in picking up on the early warning signs of an illness. They will sometimes stop eating enough hay (so you will see weight...

Neglected Guineas Need Help with Grooming :(

All my older piggies have had curled nails and as long as it's not affecting their walking or digging into the pads I've not worried about it. Most have arrived older - Flora was relatively young at 2 and hers are still sharp! George is 4 and a fatty and he's got some proper thick curly-wurly...

    Best Clippers For Long-Haired Piggies?

Hello everyone, I own two long-haired piggies and as expected their fur requires more attention than short-haired breeds. I brush my piggies often and trim the back end when it gets too long. However, it sometimes isn’t enough, particularly with my sow, who is an Abyssinian - no matter how...
