    Hutch Stairs Help

The ramp definitely needs a lot more grip. The spaces between the rungs will be too slippery for them to use and the rungs are too far apart. Adding carpet or vetbed to it to improve grip and reducing the gradient of the ramp should help if they are already used to using ramps

    Sudden loss

Ramps in hutches are usually too steep for guinea pigs and have to be modified to make them suitable. The gradient usually needs to be reduced by putting a brick or such like underneath to make it more shallow. Wooden ramps also need to have the grip improved to make them easier for piggies to...

What about using one of those bendy tunnel/bridge things as a ramp?

    Guinea pigs in conservatory.

Personally, I would not buy a hutch and run combo - they are difficult to move, difficult to clean out and the ramps are usually too steep (and, unless your piggies already use a ramp, theres the risk they won’t use the ramp). Separate hutch and run are my own preference. I have two chartwell...

    Hutch Stairs Help

It’s a thick pile fabric bedding with a green backing that lets urine through to an absorbent layer underneath Absolutely brilliant bedding for wicking and also comforting for older piggies I used Velcro to stick vetbed onto hutch ramps (when I used to use ramps - I oniy ever do single...

what does everyone think about needing a ramp from cage to floor, do the think the jump is small enough? if not, what would you use?

    New hutch for guinea pigs

Welcome to the forum Some piggies will use a ramp, some never will. Personally I always go for single level hutches and a separate run. So a single level chartwell (6ft, particularly if you have two boys) and any separate run you like. I tend to use the home & roost website. I...

Personally, I’d put a ramp. It’s quite a lot way up for them to jump - yes they can probably do it but as they age it wouldn’t be good for them As I say, I just covered a c&c grid with some vetbed but a bit of wood covered with an off cut it carpet would work Ramps in Cages and Hutches

    2 story hutch

There is no real answer to how long it takes - some piggies will learn quickly, others never do. Putting them at the top or the bottom doesn’t really matter. Remember climbing is not natural to guinea pigs and they prefer their living to be single storey (so double storey hutches are not ideal...

I’ve ordered some vetbed and double sided tape. Pip has just spawned up onto the other level just now so she had the courage to do so 😂

    C&C with 30cm panels

We bought some of our panels and coroplast from candcguineapigcages. Although we also have the grid panels like the ones in Kavee, can't remember where we bought it from though. The good thing with C&C is you can overlap some of the grids by tying it with zipties to fit the space you have. I...

    2 story hutch

Hi everyone We bought our 2x bonded males (almost 1yr old) a new 2 story hutch yesterday in the hope of giving them more room, however it would seem they are quite scared of the ramp and haven't ventured down yet. I get that its a new house for them so they will be apprehensive so just...

hmm ill see what i can do! i may not be able to give them access straight away to the run until iv fixed these bits but they should be okay in the hutch without until its all sorted shouldn’t they? also my dad can get me some more floor coverings however they will have been used / dusty, would...

    Guinea pigs in conservatory.

I would be using the hutch for the guinea pigs, facing away from the run and with the ramp closed and the run for the rabbits with an old chartwell hutch inside it. It is only for the times when the shed and sunroom are too blazing hot for them. I would be around most of the time to keep an eye...

    Sudden loss

Two sows together need a hutch which measures 150x60cm (a 5 foot hutch). Being double storey does not double the space - only the bottom level counts as living space as piggies are ground roaming creatures who are not natural climbers (meaning they prefer single level living). Double storey...

    Sudden loss

The blocks of wood are usually far too far apart and generally are not useful for them, but even with the blocks of wood, the wood itself is still too smooth for them to be fully comfortable

    2 story hutch

Alternatively, if it turns out they dont like it/won't use the 2 tiers, is there any harm in closing up the hole at the top, removing the ramp and creating efftivly 2x single story hutches and putting out 2x female piggies on the bottom and the boys up top? Currently the girls are in a...

loft area / sleeping. cozy area

I agree with mrs tiggy winkle. We cannot host video on the forum - you need to upload to YouTube first and then post a link to it here. Video hosting is costly and as a forum we cannot do it. Or you can just add some picture directly to this thread. Piggies are not natural climbers and some...
