Sudden loss

We can all see you are doing your best it'll be ok, if she has a favourite treat you could tempt her into a hidey with it, weigh her in the hidey, put her back in her house, weight the empty hidey, then the difference is her weight.

Yeah she is . She’s very timid though dosent like being handled very much . She’s really squirmy. I’m find it’s extremely difficult to find her a companion

Yeah I think she did. I think she struggles to get up and down the ramp in the hutch a little though as it a double floor hutch and the ramp is wooden but she manages 😀

Ramps in hutches are usually too steep for guinea pigs and have to be modified to make them suitable.
The gradient usually needs to be reduced by putting a brick or such like underneath to make it more shallow.

Wooden ramps also need to have the grip improved to make them easier for piggies to use - guinea pigs will not like using them if they are just plain wood. Sticking something like off cuts of carpet to them is advised to improve grip.

As piggies age, ramps can become difficult for them to use once conditions such as arthritis creep in.

The ramp also has smaller blocks of wood on it so it’s not completely smooth

The blocks of wood are usually far too far apart and generally are not useful for them, but even with the blocks of wood, the wood itself is still too smooth for them to be fully comfortable

I spoke to a girl called Claire in the phone at my local pets at home store .i asked if they had any up for adoption she said not at the moment. She also said there wasn’t any reason as to why the couldn’t sell me a single female if the circumstances where right but she wouldn’t recommend it with a older guinea pigs so I’m not sure what to do

Unfortunately if they are going to continue to give you the wrong advice then there probably isn’t much you can do in terms of buying one from them.
Tango absolutely can be bonded with a baby (as long as they are compatible).

Yeah Claire said sows are easier to bond but there is no guarantee that they will get along. She said you can try to bond them but she personally wouldn’t recommend it with an older one

Also I don’t know how long it’s going to take to find one that needs rehomed

Sows are not easier to bond than boars - bonding is the same, it all comes down to compatibility.

No, there is no guarantee they will get along but that is no different than with two boars either.
(It’s why rescue dating is recommended over buying as you have protections if the bonding fails but rescue dating isn’t an option for everyone)

Some older sows can find it harder to accept a new friend but many of them do find a new friend very happily. The shop should be recommending that you try it, not discouraging you because discouraging you from trying is doing tango a disservice.
Due to the fact you can’t rescue date, then if the bonding does fail then you would have to come up with a way for them to live side by side. For those older sows who do finding accepting a new friend harder, living side by side is the solution they need

Would u say it’s best to bond tango with a slightly older guinea pig

No.
It is best to bond her with a baby.
As explained previously, a baby cannot challenge the hierarchy so the bonding tends to go more smoothly.

If you try to bond her with a same age or older piggy then both of them are likely going to try to be dominant (older sows generally do not want to back down and lose position) which makes it a higher risk of the bonding failing.

Yeah I’ve tried the sspca here in Aberdeen but they don’t have any for adoption or rehoming at the moment and they places where they do have them are to far to travel x

I do hope so . She seems quite timid at the moment . She does come out from her hide but she does dart back into it again . X

Hi piggie and buns am I allowed to put a post on here saying I’m looking for a companion for my lonely sow

Hi I stay in Aberdeen Scotland . I recently have a bereaved sow . I am looking for a female companion for her so she is not so lonely . Is anyone looking to rehome or put up for adoption at all preferably in the Aberdeen area if possible .

You need to make a new post in the correct forum section.
This forum section is not the place people will look if they are looking for or to rehome piggies
