I agree with Wiebke - getting two baby sows is likely to be your best option and the only one that will avoid keeping tango alone for too much longer
As your piggies live outside, you need a 6ft (180x60) hutch
...incompatible then you will never be able to try again: they would need to be kept in separate cages for the rest of their lives.
As I said, hutches do not work for separated piggies because there is no way for two hutches to be positioned in a way where the two piggies can be completely...
We are buying a 6x4 shed to put our two-tier hutch in for our two piggies.
We've opted for a double door shed with two square windows in the side. Hoping to make it easier for cleaning out and provide natural light for our girls. It's also a Shiplap design which means it's draught proof and...
for people who have linoed the bottom of their hutch.. do you also put tape over the joints? or will this be good enough? as you can tell its definitely not my forte!🤣🤣
Personally, I would not buy a hutch and run combo - they are difficult to move, difficult to clean out and the ramps are usually too steep (and, unless your piggies already use a ramp, theres the risk they won’t use the ramp). Separate hutch and run are my own preference.
I have two chartwell...
thanks! i obviously want the best for my babies so I'm going to see what i can make work, they will be in a 5ft MINIMUM though, i don’t even really want them in that hence why i thought the double may be better.
thankyou, its just the heater dropped slowly last night down to 14 and i got a little worried. i suppose its been a week now though so they should be more acclimatised? and really, its less than 10 degrees i need to worry about isn’t it?
I think tangos behaviour has changed since losing salsa . She just wants to hide in her igloo or in amongst the hay. I try to get her out to give her attention but it’s like she dosent want to come out the hutch
I only have a normal thermometer - popped it on with a cable tie.
You won’t need that though if you aren’t using hutch covers as the temperature your piggies are exposed to will be the same as in the whole room. You’ll just have to make sure the radiator is keeping it at a consistent temperature
Unfortunately I would think that a 4ft hutch would be considered too small for most rescues - they tend to ask for (a minimum of) 5 foot. Some rescues won’t rehome at all to outdoor homes either.
All you can do is wait until they get back to you though
Sorry to hear that. Hay hutch makes nice hay, not sure if this is any use?
Timothy Seed Heads | The Hay Hutch
Also a different thing but the piggies parcel oat hay recently has had some nice seed heads on it and goes down well over here.
...the summer is if there is a torrential thunderstorm for example (a bit of a shower and i would not use the cover) and rain was heading into the hutch. Even then the cover should only be down while it’s raining. The moment the rain stops and sun comes back out the hutch would heat up within...
because they are in the hutch and not on the floor in a run yet, hopefully they will be a bit more protected, i suppose they aren’t protected when the hutch is outside in nothing, so even chicken wire on the shed door is surely better (literally for like 2 days until the mesh comes?)
...clearly starting to feel at home in The Penthouse Suite of Betsy Towers. If he knows there's food involved, he will help me with opening the hutch door with his head, he will then proceed to stretch as far out of the hutch as he can without physically falling out to get whatever I have for...
