So glad she’s doing well after her surgery. It’s definitely a good idea to look at a low calcium diet. And if you’re giving bottles water, please check the calcium content as the calcium levels vary significantly from brand to brand.
Please do take a look at our helpful guides which give you...
I might be moving to germany sometime in the near future, so I went ahead and checked out some of the pet stores around the area I might be moving to and found a couple different pellets. I'm not sure if any of them are good or not, so I was just wondering. Right now my piggies are on Oxbow...
Hi
There are essentially only three food groups: water - hay/grass fibre - fresh and dry supplementary foods.
Unlimited hay/grass fibre, which makes over three quarters of what they should eat in a way. You control that intake by weighing once weekly (switching to weighing daily first thing in...
...off without any dried food than giving the food which contains too many sugary and unhealthy items.
My piggies are on a pretty much pelletfreediet.
They get hay and a variety of veg every day and that’s essentially it.
On a Wednesday and on a Sunday, they are given just five pellets each...
Thank you for the reply ! No problem, I'm really trying to find the issue too because this is worrying me.
They are having a cupfull of veg, not so much pellets (1 tsp the morning and one the evening) and some pea flakes occasionnaly.
I stopped giving fresh grass when the first symptoms...
hi everyone.
So my 5 year old boy, Leroy has had a bit of a rough time lately.
Long story short, he was diagnosed with heart disease 5 months ago. Last week he had a big impaction followed by a suspected URI and possible worsening of the fluid. ( I took him to the vets as he was off his wet...
What veg do you feed please? I'm giving Fonzie a teaspoon of piggie parcels and that is it and I'm having problems.
Do you know how long it takes for a sludge wee after a food that could cause it? His diet is definitely not too high but wondering if there is something that is bothering him
If he is eating and stable (please weigh first thing every morning for day to day comparison) then, let him be. To be honest, it doesn't sound like full-on bloating to me, either - they are painful and come with loss appetite. Personally, I think the real cause may lie elsewhere outside the gut...
Hi
Great that you have taken those piggies on. School piggies are sadly among the most neglected and traumatised pets; not least because they are shoved between parents or staff who are not looking after them well enough during weekends and holidays.
Please take a deep breath. You definitely...
Hello and thank you,
Yes of course, she’s having 0.04ml of metacam which is the cat strength one. She currently weighs 840 grams (she’s always been little I had her as a rescue, my biggest piggy is 1.2kg 😂)
I do her weight every other day in the morning so it’s consistent.
I am using feliway...
You don't need to feed pellets if you're not comfortable feeding them. They are not really esssentiel to a guinea pig's diet.
Mine get a bit of Science Selective and Versele Laga pellets but just as special treats.
You could also have a look around here but I'm not sure if they are soy free...
Thanks for replying. It’s so hard to know whether you are doing the right thing or not.
Thank you..they are very cute! Still trying to get them used to being handled. Some days they don’t mind it, other days they are really nervous and just dont want it 😩 x
I am almost pelletfree. Mine get five pellets each twice a week (on a Wednesday and a Sunday) handfed as a treat.
You share they get nutrients by providing a wider variety of veg.
Mine get lettuce, cucumber, coriander and bell pepper every day as the basis but I add in other veggies also...
Where does that information come from? Like why would that happen? I don't understand why it would cause it and this is the only place I have read it.
He has meadow hay, timothy hay all the time. Morning he has cucumber, pepper, romaine lettuce. No diet variety due to his cage mate with issues...
Kale is the highest calcium containing vegetable but all pellets (even low calcium ones) still contain more calcium than kale.
A completely dry diet with no veg is never something I would do - I’d ditch the pellets entirely but would not go veg free. But as I say, you have to find the right...
Hi
I am very sorry
A stronger diuretic like frusol (not sure whether it is a UK brand name or not), which contains furosemide but also some citric acid and some other stuff is helpful in stimulating the regular flushing of the bladder with stronger pees so there is less of a risk of bacteria...
Billy pig, has been advised to have a pelletfreediet, after having bladder stones removed last Friday.
I suspect I am over thinking this, but do we need to do anything different? We already filter water, and only occasionally feed high in calcium veg. Can he still have the occasional bit of...
Instead of pellets, you can introduce fresh or dry forage.
Veg, fresh and dry forage, pellets and any treats all together replace the role of wild forage so you can for instance without problems feed a slice of kale or (collard) greens once a week - provided you always introduce any new foods...
Hi
Water intake in piggies can vary enormously from those that do not or hardly ever drink to those that empty a whole large bottle in a day - it's actually all within the healthy limit. Just give Reggie time to settle and to establish his own normal and then take it from there. The good news...
