    Teddy pig, ear issues

It might be random but would it make sense to feed vegetables that have lower starch content? I just googled low yeast veg and things like carrots and corn etc can be high in carbs so try to avoid. And I’ve been feeding carrots more recently for sure.

    Bad poops on and off

...contacted the vet by phone to ask if I needed to come in. At that time, I was advised on one occasion to temporarily stop giving vegetables, and on another occasion to give some stool from my other guinea pig. Both times that seemed to help, but after 2–3 weeks a similar episode returned. I...

Newbie - food and housing questions

Cucumber is absolutely fine to feed, in moderation as always. Root vegetables are a special treat only occasionally given as they are very high in sugar. Our four do well on a basic mix of romaine lettuce, sweet peppers, and cucumber daily, with the occasional piece of carrot, celery or apple...

Guinea pig's impaction keeps coming back – going to vet tomorrow

...to my recollection I haven't dropped him a single time when picking him up. Sometimes his cage mate climbs on his back when begging for vegetables – maybe this could have hurt him, I will not let him do this in the future. They also used to play with a tunnel they almost got stuck in once (it...

    Bald belly and flaky skin

Hi At that age, treatment options are very limited and you and your vet may just decide to put up with it in view of her frailty. The baldness will continue to spread. I had to make that decision with my vet for my by then very frail 6/7 years old Cerian during the last few months of her life...

    Daily Vegetable Intake Advice

...per day (the four safe daily veggies are coriander/cilantro, lettuce, bell pepper and cucumber). However, if he has struggled with digestive issues relating to vegetables then you have done absolutely the right thing in keeping the veg portion of his diet to what you know he is comfortable with.

    How good is this food?

I think it’s limited because it doesn’t contain much. It isn’t hay based, it’s vegetable based. It only contains vegetables and vegetable protein extract, seeds and minerals

Please help me, I am really helpless,

When guinea pigs are suddenly startled, in China we call this a stress response. I don't know what it's called where you are, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. Is it called desensitisation? What should I do now?

    Survivors Group Therapy

Straight forward but need an exotic vet with guinea pig experience, dozens of medications many not used for common pet species, syringes, a change of vegetable menu every few days, hand picked, safe grass, bottom cleans, weener cleans, to be able to eat every minute of the day (some chew even...

    Sticky poo, bad diet?

...take him to the vet, or wait a few days with a few alterations to his diet to see if his droppings improve? We do give them both a lot of vegetables during Christmas and New Year to celebrate, including carrots, lettuce (in Dutch we call it Krop Sla – I do not know the proper, English...

Guinea pig has vitamin C deficiency, but does a weird head tilt - is it related?

    Feeding Fruit/Veg Scraps to Save

Oh sorry! I meant more so as a smaller portion of the diet. Things like lettuce, wheatgrass, cucumbers, and celery are the main portion of their veg, but I like adding herbs, sometimes fruit etc. For that smaller portion, I was wondering how suitable and how often certain fruit and vegetable...

    New Guinea pig

Hi Water intake in piggies can vary enormously from those that do not or hardly ever drink to those that empty a whole large bottle in a day - it's actually all within the healthy limit. Just give Reggie time to settle and to establish his own normal and then take it from there. The good news...

    Small Poo? Help

Update: I did ring up the vet for some advice. They said as long as she’s still eating and going to the toilet, they’re not worried. They said to keep giving cucumber/watery veg and syringe feed rescue food.
