Hi
If you have microwaveable pads, put those in the fridge and freeze a bottle of water (not fully filled, ice expands) in the freezer overnight; wrap it in some fleece or small towel when putting it into the cage. Replace it with another bottle in the freezer so you can switch bottles.
Also...
Thank you, that is very kind.
- On the nutritional side, what we are lacking is an overview of commercially available dry forage products. It is currently the area that is seeing a real boom in combination with a reduced or no pellets diet trend but there is often not exactly a lot of detailed...
I use old bath towels/beach towels underneath fleece and it works really well for me! The upside I find with it, is I wouldn't have to keep buying puppy pads/any other one time use absorbent layer. Downside that I can see most people having, is that it's quite the load of laundry. But I think...
I currently use them alongside fleece liners and love them but I'm not a fan of fleece liners.
Think I will give the pee pads and bobble mats a whirl and if it doesn't work ill just go back to fleece, I've got 4 liners I had made in etsy because I wouldn't know where to start with a sewing...
In terms of the hutch size while narrower than would be advised (a hutch should be 60cm in width) it does just meet the minimum of 8 square feet for two females.
I appreciate it is smaller than that which they are used to in their c&c but it isn’t absolutely dreadful. If your mum is adamant...
My Guinea pig actually lives alone and I’m not able to take him to the vet sadly, is there any home remedies?Or any other over the counter medication I could give the poor guy I know he must be in pain he itches all day long
Welcome to the forum
Three sows need a cage of 180x60cm.
The grids safety depend on how many holes there are - you need grids which have 9 holes but I’m sure either one of those are fine.
Grids with 7 or 8 holes will mean each hole is too big and can pose a danger to the pigs of getting their...
I have some stuff on forage but I don't know if commercial forage is included. I know I had added to @Abi_nurse existing list. If/when I find that I'll fact check and that can be added to a pre existing list if need be. I've just found my 101 bookmarks on various animal bits there's at least 6...
I went over to fleece liners after picking shavings out of my boars penises a few times. They do love to rub their scent glands along the floor! I second not getting waterproof backed liners. I make my own liners so can't advise where to buy them but I know there are some highly recommended ones...
I use unprinted newsprint as my first layer (I buy whatever the cheapest large sketch pads are, since they're easy to store and tear out). On top of that, I use bath towels that have been cut and hemmed to desired my size, and then fleece mats that we made (they're just two layers of fleece with...
Next have got some larger bath mats for £14 each. They are 90 x 60cm and so we have got 4 sets of 2 (in different colours) for our 180 x 60cm cage. I washed them once before first use (as I pre-wash everything for us and piggies anyway) and they work really well on top of washable puppy pads...
The only thing I would say about the cage itself is that do you ever lock him into it? I ask as it doesn’t look big enough for him to be closed into it at all (although picture can be deceptive - the minimum cage size to be locked in is 120x60cm) what do you do when you go out or at night, is...
No problemo! ☺️
One final thing to suggest is bedding. Not that there's necessarily rights and wrongs but sometimes certain types of shavings (pine, I think?) can cause skin irritation. Not to all pigs - or nobody would ever buy them! Or if you are on fleece avoid scented washing liquids and...
I do feed kale, because the boys love it! The problem is you can only buy such big bags of it in the supermarket and we don't like it, so if I barely give them any, I have to throw most of it away! But I do try not to feed too much. 😕 I don't ever feed spinach though because of the high...
Unfortunately I can't manage vet bed. Maybe if I lived in a house with garden, but in my flat vet bed is a no-go.
But I'll carry on with fleece as long as it's possible.
