    Leroy lost his battle.

Hi everyone.. I’m really struggling to come To terms with the loss of my boy, Leroy. This is a very long post.. but I feel like I need to get all my feelings out and I hope someone can read it. 🥹 So I got Leroy around 2 years ago. I was with my friend on pets at home while she was getting...

    Sudden Paralysis in Back Legs

I’m so sorry for all the precious piggies you’ve lost and the turbulent challenging times you have faced too 😢😢. I will write more later but I just wanted to say that you are right - finding the source of strength and solace is essential. I had some very cute chin nibbles from my one-year old...

Care fresh bedding does anyone use? If so please help

I don’t know if this is the correct forum but if it’s not I apologize, on the bedding sometimes it has. Blue spots and red sports like paint, sometimes even green, just wanna make sure the red part isn’t blood? Because I know I used to see red spots on bedding before even cleaning the cage I may...

Setting up new shed for Guinea pigs

I have a shed. I originally had four boars (in two pairs) so I had a two storey hutch with one pair at the top and one pair at the bottom. The shed floor was used as a time share run space for each pair. This worked very well as it was easy to insulate the hutch (as well as the shed) and use...

    How do I connect?

It's an easy mistake to make. The way they make their corex in two pieces means it will still fit overlapped and one day you may have room to make it bigger! I've lost count over the last 10 years how many times I've changed my cages. I now have loads of spare grids as I have 3 extra 2x4 cages I...

    Mould Prevention on Wood Hides

I always had a problem with wooden hides going mouldy too, despite changing the pee pads everyday. I ended up painting them with Johnstones? water based paint which worked really well. I eventually went over to fleece hides after the piggies got giardia and the wooden hides had to be disposed...

    Member Gallery: C&C cages/homemade cages

It looks wonderful. Please make sure that there is plenty of hay and water on the two lower levels; including a place where your piggies can sleep and burrow in soft hay. Hay and fresh dog-pee free grass make over three quarters of the daily food intake so it is good to have it in more...

    Not Eating/Reduced eating

Okay so, he’s been lapping up nuggets, veg and hay all day. He’s been having some smaller poops on and off, some are small and some are normal, but they are a healthy colour and texture. Is there a chance he has had some issue with minor-major gut upset alongside the travelling which has...

Safe for GP 21 hours after painting?

Hi! I painted my ceiling today, I live in the attic so my walls are slanted making my ceilings very small. I put my guinea pigs in my mothers room while I painted. The windows have been open and I have two fans going, I’ll be doing this until tomorrow. Is it okay to move them back in and into...

    Bereaved male - possible match?

Hi everyone . My lovely lad Lando sadly passed away earlier this week after a continuous fight with his health. I'm absolutely gutted and heartbroken he's no longer around but feel comforted knowing he is no longer suffering. He has left behind his brother Gus. From what we know from my mum...

Someone on the Guinea pigs Facebook page said this hutch was suitable for four sows, is this true?

That size would only really be appropriate for 3 sows unfortunately. It's the same as a 2 x 5 C&C so a little small for your current herd. However if it is going to be inside is there some way you can add a permanent run around the front to give them a bit more space? Maybe use some fo the C&C...

    Hannah’s Herd thread!

Woohooo! We finally have taken the fireplace out of the pig room which means more space and better cage arrangements! ..well ignore the fact we still have a hole in the roof that’s covered with a towel.. The hole will be covered asap. Then next step is painting, putting up shelves and...

    What have I done?

I wanted to do a little bit of painting in the piggies room, so I have moved their cage into my bedroom for a couple of days to get them away from the smell of the paint. I thought this would be ok, but for some reason they're not happy. As soon as i put them in there they both disappeared into...

Someone on the Guinea pigs Facebook page said this hutch was suitable for four sows, is this true?

I could try. It could be awkward though as I have a cat and a dog too. Would a 7ft hutch work? I could maybe buy an outdoor run and build a bottom the same way you would a c&c cage

Safe for GP 21 hours after painting?

Hi! It is OK to move them back with water based paint, even if there is still a faint smell. The paint fumes are by then not harmful. Oil based paints are a very different matter (skirting boards, windowsills, and furniture etc.)

    DIY cage advice UK

Similar to @rp1993. My cage is half an old child’s wardrobe, which was just wood which we painted with childsafe paint. And then we extended it and used furniture board. For the bottom we used a large plywood sheet, again painted. Then plexiglass for the front.

    Bereaved male - possible match?

Hi I am so sorry for your loss. If you can get there, I would highly recommend that you contact Gertie's Lonely Guinea Pig Rescue in the Newcastle area (I think they could be in South Shields?). They have got lots of boars looking for a new home in rescue and offer boar dating - i.e. allowing...

Safe Paint or Varnish for an Indoor run

Hello, my partner has built a lovely indoor run for our two 6 month old boys. It's untreated wood and Perspex sides but a plywood base. What paint or varnish can you recommend for the floor? and maybe the wooden posts. They don't appear to be big chewers - but you never know, one has started to...

    Hannah’s Herd thread!

Hello! We’re in Autumn now with winter on its way, grass is growing which means the piggos can get hand picked grass. I feel like Olive has come back out of her shell recently, I guess I hadn’t noticed how quiet she’d been since losing her big sister Opal, and also battling with the UTI way...
