We would recommend they are moved out of the room during painting and then return once the smell of paint has gone. It shouldn’t take many hours for that to happen - a temporary cage in another room would suffice
Well done - it’s lovely to be excited and have something special to look forward to 🥰
If you can, go for safe paint no odours etc - I use Frenchic paint or Little Knights
Some paints can leave a smell weeks after and piggies have very sensitive smell sensors
Both have lots of colours to choose...
@Weibke I certainly can!
Hi @BellaCLM42! I agree some paint relief would be beneficial - she could be licking it due to discomfort. Hopefully it'll be easier for you give her treatment when she's more comfortable with being touched!
We have in the past used an f10 shampoo which has worked...
Hi
We have just moved and we have the pigs in the front room
However there is a bit of decorating work to be done
A few holes in walls need plastering over , then these patches may need a lick of paint. Ideally I’d rather not paint the whole room if I can find the same colour. There are also a...
My cage houses 3 guinea pigs at the moment (used to be 4) and measures around 4,6 square metres (length 288 cm, width varies from 115 cm to 220 cm, height from floor to top of the plexiglass is 60cm).
I designed and built the cage myself after having my piggies for a few years and figuring out...
Hi
Personally, I would rather have them out of way as the stripping steam is building up in the room and the humidity can get pretty high and unpleasant. If you have a stably bonded pair and the space for a temporary cage in another room for a few days, it would make it a lot easier; especially...
I'd use some 2x1" timber from Wickes (Wickes Whitewood PSE Timber - 18mm x 44mm x 2.4m | Wickes.co.uk) or local timber merchant and build a frame then add on some legs, again probably 2x1" timber maybe with some cross braces for support, then screw MDF top down to the timber frame, this way the...
Thank you forum is great so much info. I should have lots of storage under desks and decided to put our bedding into storage bags on shelves to make it easier. Just got to get painting now lol
Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcome and replies.
I have edited my shopping lists to include more of each item I plan on buying, bookmarked the hay suggestions too!
Over the weekend I managed to test built the cage to get internal measurements (and dismantled it), washed the fleece...
The grids with the rectangular close together bars (baby bars), (Kavee type) bent together and pulled out a friends piggy's front teeth when he was biting the bars.
I had some square holed grids from a well known on line cage seller that were not very good quality (my opinion!), the solder gave...
I'm honestly now at a loss of what to do. This has become a huge problem, has cost a lot of money, and there doesn't seem to be an answer. I seem to have followed and tried all advice and am really stuck. And this problem is affecting how often I clean my guinea pigs or spend time with them. I...
Hi there! I was wondering if anyone knows a place to buy 35.x35.5 white grids as I was wanting to redo my Guinea pigs cage! Or even some Guinea pig safe white paint or something like that! Thank you:))
New plan, new plan! We're going back to square one and building a new cage:crazy:
I found out what happened. The entire cage was a team effort and I wanted it built out of the waterproof plywood I'd ordered. But somebody cut the bottom out of untreated wood and used it, the rest of the cage was...
I know gutted as ive just painted spare room yellow lol but it might be less stressful than worrying about them all summer. It has a blind and was still roasting sometimes and were in Wales not known for its heat.
Ive read about wet sheets but can't figure out how you attach them.
Ill get a...
We have one little piggy who is just over a year old and has a current cage size 42" x 18" x 21" but I'd like to buy him something bigger. I've heard a lot of people use C&C cages which sounds like a good option but I'm afraid of buying the cheap ones from Amazon because of the paint chipping...
So far! It will go tomorrow.
I had a lot sticking out on the spare pens too. I wasn't so bothered by them as they came out temporarily. I no longer have any spares, I can't believe how many grids that cage and stand took. Just ordered some more grids as we use them in the shed if we do any noisy...
