Hello
I have a large outdoor hutch (that will be moved into a shed in the very cold weather), which I have just lined with self adhesive Lino flooring. I’m just wondering what to put on top of this for warmth and comfort- fleece or vet bed ?
Are both okay for outside ?
And over the whole...
due to unforeseen circumstances i am no longer able to keep my beautiful babies inside. i am absolutely heartbroken and so scared as i know how hard it is with extreme weathers, this is only temporary while i am trying to get back on my feet but for now I'm trying to focus on the fact i am able...
Hello, if the original poster were to cut a hole in the mesh at the end of her hutch and attach the small wooden hide she said she had, would that be big enough

I’m sorry to read your circumstances have changed .
I hope you can get back on your feet asap .
Please don’t put your piggies outside( in a summerhouse) til late Spring - they will not be able to adjust to the sudden change in temperature and conditions , even with heat and it will be...
I'm sorry to hear this.
You don’t yet know how well the radiator will keep your shed up to temperature so best to assume that it won’t (it may only be capable of taking the edge off the chill rather than keeping them fully at the temperature they are accustomed to - going to depend on shed size...
I have extra grids cable tied together except the end two. they concertina up for storage and I can quickly unfold them, pop connectors on the end grids and just lay down a plastic sheet to protect the floor, puppy pads and a fleece - and it’s all done within a couple of minutes.
Keeping them...
If the room you are bringing them into is anything more than 5 degrees different to outside, then yes, stop bringing them in. (You really would be looking at needing to keep the room literally 0-5 degrees in mid winter to be able to bring them indoors at all).
You will need thermometers...
That’s fine, I’ll just make their hutch as cosy and interesting as I can for them through this winter :) Hopefully by next winter I will have something larger for them. Ideally would like a small heated shed with space for them to run around indoors during colder months if they choose to.
We...
to keep our GPs warm in the colder weather we have created a false ply floor in the bedding area and we pop a cosy Pod heat pad under the false floor this creates a more gentle heat(underfloor heating for them) they loved it last winter, also stops them peeing on the heat pad or trying to chew it
Fill the hide inside with hay, make sure to add a snugglesafe under it. You can also throw hay over the top. They will be fine without fleece over it given a hop inn is a solid structure.
I use a small fleece over the top of bendy bridges. A fleece over those just helps keep warmth inside...
Yes I can see how they may need to spend quite a lot of time inside over the summer! Luckily our utility room is really cool as it's a concrete outbuilding, usually at least 5-10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house.
Perfect. Think I will invest in the HopInn ones, they look cosier to me. Could I put fleece around top/sides of those as well for extra insulation?
Weve stopped putting the boys out for exercise in the outdoor run now it’s getting cold. We don’t space for a permanent indoor setup unfortunately...
A larger cage is inevitable wether he is housed with a new roommate or not (depending on how bonding works out). I am trying not to keep him on his own much longer as although he is doing fine he must be quite bored, and I would need to think about what to do should Toby and pig number 2 not get...
Ok great tip regarding the scent! Thinking about it, Reggie will often be investigating while I'm putting the hutch back together and new fleeces in. He starts his rumbling a bit sometimes and checking everything is up to scratch 🤣 as the dominant one.
As for the hay, I'll try that too -...

I’m an outdoor owner myself (I do have a shed though)
I'm really sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this kind of hutch is not...
Hello and welcome to the forum. Your piggies are gorgeous. 🥰
I’ve had outside piggies before but now I have the space indoors they have moved in lol.
When I had a hutch/run combo I glued two pieces of wood to stop them falling down the ramp and this also stopped some of the hay and sawdust...
It sounds like your cleaning schedule is fine. As long as no wet bedding or hay is left.
The tricky bit can come with boars that the more you clean then the more they can become disrupted - we always recommend leaving some scent in the cage at each clean so they still recognise it as their...
Hi there, thanks for the reply!
Oh no! That's a bummer :( Thanks for letting me know. It was given to us so I just assumed by its size it would be more than big enough!
The entire downstairs area is approx 150x60 (only slightly smaller than the 180x60).
If I get some wood cut and boxed-in the...
