Thank you all for your lovely comments, it's great to hear such support... to answer some of your questions:
I do realise how lucky I am with the cage space, the OH is very supportive...he gave up on the idea of having a 'functional' dining room a long time ago :-)
Yep, the bed is from the toy section in Ikea...it cost about £9 and serves pretty well as a bed and shelter alike. We've only had it a couple of weeks but they certainly seem to love it.
The girls do sort of have the run of the house. The kitchen and dining room are adjoining and open plan, but we shut the 2 doors into the hall so they can only run around in the 2 rooms. They hardly come into the kitchen in normal conditions, except a couple of the more cheeky ones that want first dibs on the food while I'm prepping their dishes :-)
They're actually very clean with the whole free range thing (much cleaner than we thought they would be at first) and fairly responsible about knowing where 'their area' is. We don't get any nesting outside; it's just out for a wee wander, then back to the cage when they want to sleep, eat, drink, poo or pee (which is quite often).
It was somewhat bumpy to begin with; i.e. making the place piggy safe by removing any trailing wires, shaping the cage and things in the room such that there are no cosy dark corners or corridors underneath radiators for them to hide in :-) I'm sure you can imagine.
I'm absolutely loving that some of your piggies were screaming along with the video, that's absolutely fab to hear!
Thanks again for all the kind comments, I will post some more vids once we get the time to film.
G'night!
