Hi again, I'm hopefully getting a rescue boar today but I'm wondering which age is best to get to bond with my 11 month old bereaved boar.

For context my boar (Cookie) is very very dominant, his last cagemate only stayed with him because he was a cuy and very timid/submissive. I think Cookie is more dominant due to the fact that he's quite small (he eats the same amount as my other pig, I think he may have been the runt). I tried to bond him with my other boar at home who is unfortunately also alone but it turned violent and my other boar (Sundae) now has a (healed) cut in his ear. I'm just stuck because he's not quite an adult and definitely not a baby - if I'm right, at 11 months they're at the end of their teenage years. Any help would be appreciated 😊 (I've attached some recent photos below because he's just so cute)

Age is not a major determining factor for the likelihood of a stable relationship. It is character compatibility which counts, so the piggies are going to have to like each other and want to be together.
If you just bring a piggy home to do the bonding yourself, then there is always going to be the possibility that they won’t get on. It sounds as if you will need to ensure the piggy you bring home is very submissive, but even so, it doesn’t mean that they will get on. Taking cookie boar dating is the best way of finding a successful match as he will be tried with different piggies until one is found who he likes. If the rescue centre won’t do boar dating then you will want to check that they are happy for you to return any boar in case of a failed bonding.

Their teenage months don’t end until 14/15 months of age.

Ah okay, thank you. They won't do boar dating but have said that they're happy to bring the rescue back. If it doesn't work out I'll likely bond the rescue with my other boar since he's already alone unfortunately. Then I'll try again with Cookie another time

That sounds like a good plan x
Have a read at the boar bonding page in the Guinea Pig Guides for the best success x Your boy is very handsome x

Just thought you'd like an update: The bonding was the best I've seen, the little guy I got is called Crumble and he gets on really well with Cookie 😊 Instead of being too dominant, he's actually looking after Crumble

Another Update: They've been separated :( Cookie randomly attacked little Crumble and he had to have a toe amputated... He's healed up now and happy but I need to figure out housing arrangements as he's temporarily alone. The vets said I did everything I should've and that I likely just have a very aggressive and overly-dominant boar (Cookie) and said he should stay alone for the safety of other Guinea pigs. Super sad news but at least Crumble is okay and safe now!
