hi, i was just hoping for some advice really, my two boys are 11 months old now and as long haired aby they need constant grooming. however this afternoon when inspecting eugenes 'boys bits' i noticed he has some hair and debris stuck to the outside of his sack, hes normally pretty clean. however after trying (very gently) to remove the debris with warm water i noticed it goes further inside and is fairly stuck down, the area is about 1 cm long, maybe smaller. and is made of hair, feaces and other lighter sticky stuff that I'm not sure what it is.
secondly, hes normally quiet and happy just making calm little noises when i pet him, but the last few days hes been squeeking a lot when i pick him up and handle him, maybe the two are connected?
i dont want him to be in pain, do i need to take him to the vets? any idead at all?
many thanks
Gemma x

Hello and welcome :) I am afraid I don't really have much advise as I have girls. The squeaking and change in behaviour indicates that he could be in discomfort so I strongly suggest you take him to the vet to have the debris removed properly. If left, it can cause infections and pain and if you mess around with it and don't know what you are doing, you could make it worse.

The 'sticky stuff' you mention is probably sperm.

Good luck x

Mmm yes I probably would because if his behaviour is as you say it sounds like he may be sore - which would indicate infection.

Just to be safe I would take him... I would continue bathing it & trying to clean it until you get an appt xx

Just to add, you can make your own saline solution by boiling some water, adding a pinch of salt and leaving to cool in an air type container. This will help to keep the area clean.

Def go to the vets as he might have an infection.

Some boys tend to be bottom draggers and get bits stuck down there, just regular checks and removing any debris as soon as you notice it will stop any infections from starting.

It's a rank job and one of the joys of owning boars unfortunately. But worth it :)

I would take him to see a vet. Better safe than sorry & it would put your own mind at ease.
