Hi all, I’m looking for an 160cm cage for an upgrade to an ‘starter cage’ that was 80 cm. But I’ve realised it’s far too small. If I got a 160 cm cage the width would have to be less then 91cm. I’ve had a look at the plaza 160 but I want to see other alternatives. Anyone have any ideas? Do they sell 160cm Midwest’s? Or if I got a c&c cage what grids would I have to get and how would I set it up?

I can recommend the plaza it’s a wonderful cage. You can buy a separate 40 cm extension and add it to the other end so you have a 200 cm cage. I’ve done this

Oh wow! What does it come with and what do you have to put together and does it come with any acessories? How much was it and where did you buy it from?

The basic Plaza 160 comes with a 120 cm main cage and a 40 cm add on extension which clicks on making it 160 cm in total. You can buy a further 40 cm add on extension which clicks on the opposite end making 200 cm in total.
Or if you have no small children and other larger pets then a C&C grid cage are fab, you can make them to any size and shape at a relatively cheap cost

Do you know the width of it?

It comes with dish, two hay feeders and a sleeping compartment (I’m not keen on that and don’t use mine) it has only one entrance. Large water bottle too
The cage comes flat pack and it is self assembly

I use newspaper with hay on top in the main area 120 cm and fleece matts in the 40 cm extension areas with newspaper underneath.
Anti pil fleece can be bought on eBay for about £8 per meter 100 cm x width which is generally 150 cm or 60” wide

If you went down the C&C route a 2X4 is 149X77cm and a 2X5 is 185X77cm you can get them from here with a full kit with everything that you need:
2 x 4 Grid Cage - C and C Guinea Pig Cages
You could also go down the DIY c&C route which is what we did for our C&C this way you could over lap some grids to make it in between a 2X4 & 2X5, you can buy grids from Amazon they need to be the 9 hole ones not 8 and then you will need some Correx for the base (4mm is recommended) I would put it o you tube how to build one from scratch it’s relatively simple!

For the first link you put, what does it come with?

They come with the grids, the base which will be pre cut and scored, the clip things and some zip ties I believe, we haven’t ordered from them but I have friends that have used them.

I have used the C&c guinea pig cage company. It comes with everything you need to build the cage

The plaza 160 is the biggest commercial cage available. Midwest cages are only 120cm (which is the minimum for two sows), so you would need to buy two and join them together for the cage to be big enough for two boars.
I have both a c&c and the ferplast plaza 160 as spare cages and I really like them both. (Although for the purposes of them being my spare cages, the c&c is easier as its smaller to store).

Another plaza user here. We actually have 2 of the 120cm portions put together...my husband made a block of wood to slot between the two and then we have a divider which sits in the block. This means my boars each get a 120 x 60cm cage.

If my boars got on they could of course have the full 2.4m stretch to share but never mind.

I bought one of the plazas new from Zooplus, but the other I found never used on Facebook Marketplace for £25 so it's worth having a look around.

I also have the plaza 160 and me and my two piggies love it. I brought mine from Zooplus for £69.99
Did yours come in good condition? Because I had a look and there were a few 1 star reviews saying things didn’t fit. Was that the case for you? Also would you say it is easy to build?

I got my plaza on eBay, I collected it from a lady who’s piggies had died and she was not getting anymore. The cage was in excellent condition, gave it a good clean with F10 and hey presto. If you can travel then definitely worth looking on secondhand sites.
I got these grids on eBay to make a bonding pen. You can make any shape you want, loads of grids. A shower PVC shower curtain makes a weatherproof base. Each grid is 35 cm you can make a massive cage out of them. It all depends if you have other pets or small children though

I’ve got no children or small pets so may consider making a C&C cage.

I think these C&C cages are great, we could not have them because at the time we had two small grandchildren, one a toddler! You can buy extra connectors too (the black rounds that connect the grids or cable tie)

Yes we have made an L shape with our 160 plus our 140 Plaza which is really good, we have a ramp that connects the two. Our new boar is in the smaller plaza atm until Friday then we may connect the two together again once they are all settled

In your opinion, would you call the 160 cm portion narrow?

I had a 120 Ferplast before which is also a similar width but the Plaza seems less bulky. The base element also feels a bit lower so I find it easier to see the piggies. Overall I think for a commercial cage it's pretty neat and tidy looking.

I also use some the square grid cubes as a play pen but I have a cat so couldn't really go for an open top C&C as a permanent home. The Plaza ticks all the boxes for me.
