Disney and Paris are off to the vets for a check-up. We have had them for 2 weeks and I just want to make sure they are both females rolleyes

I have a few concerns, firstly I haven't seen them drink much, and the water bottle doesn't seem to go down much. They have a bowl of fruit and veg morning and evening plus dry food and hay, but one of the piggies seems to be growing alot bigger than the other.

I think I may just be worrying over nothing :{

I agree that you are worrying over nothing too but taking them to the vets for a check up is always a good idea if only for peace of mind. Some piggies do not drink much water and if you are feeding them plenty of fruit and veg, this will provided them with enough water. Can I give a suggestion though? Try and feed more veg than you do fruit as a lot of fruit can be acidy for pigs. As for one being bigger than the other, I wouldn't worry too much. Guinea pigs come in many different shapes and sizes. My Connie is about 4 months older than Eliza, but Eliza is bigger than Connie and weighs more. Good luck at the vets xx

I have only given them melon and a piece of banana so far, I read that apple can make there lips sore, is this right? They have also had celery, cucumber, carrot, broccoli (which they didn't seem to like!) and cherry toms (which also did not get eaten).

Its like being a new mum again, I am fussing over them dreadful, my kids reckon I love the piggies more than them :)) they are only joking though!

Sounds like they are getting a good variety of foods then :) Yes, too much apple can give them mouth sores so feed in moderation. Banana is good as well as a treat. Be carful with it though as too much can cause constipation. I still fuss too much over my girls and I've had them for nearly 18 months now :)) You sound like you're going to be a fantastic piggy mummy x

We had a successful trip to the vets, which is only a 5 minute walk. We saw a student vet who keeps piggies herself :)) so I was really pleased, they are both female (thank goodness) although I would love babies, and she thinks the same as Claire, that one is obviously going to be bigger that the other. She also said that they are healthy and had no concerns about them not drinking much as they seemed fine.

So anyway I can stop worrying about them and just enjoy them :)

My piggies never seemed to touch their bottle, but I made sure the veg were washed in water and I left it on, plus I always gave them a lot of cucumber, as they derived moisture from that.

I'm glad you had a satisfactory vet visit - always good for peace of mind.

my guinea only eats cherry tomatoes if i cut them up! x

Yeah I cut one up this morning and half has gone and I also tried them on red pepper today and they seem to be enjoying that :)

My girls are exactly the same... and with their grapes as well (they're allowed one grape each per day, as a special treat during lap time), but both things I have to cut in half for them... spoiled little girls. :)
