I have 4 boars living in a hutch together, they seemed fine for the first few months but for the past few weeks, Percy and Larry have been fighting. We left them to sort it out but unfortunately we had to separate them last week when Larry had cuts on his back and Percy had tears in his ears, poor babies :( Larry is currently on his own in a section of the hutch that we have built a divider for with chicken wire so that he can still squeak at his other brothers Ernie and Tufty and doesn't get completely shut out of the group before we find a more permanent solution. We have space and can afford another hutch, but that would mean splitting Percy, Ernie and Tufty up and they are all getting on well. I have suggested introducing a new baby boar in with Larry in a separate hutch but my mum is very against this idea as she thinks it wouldn't work as the original problem was that we had been sold too many boars all together so how could adding another solve it? Is she right and has anyone else got any suggestions on what else we could do? Would it be worth re-introducing Larry to the others or not?

I personally would split into 2 pairs as successful boar trios are few and far between.

You can only keep two boars together. Any more than that and fights happen. Separating them into two pairs by picking the ones who get on best is the best option. However, Once fights have occurred and blood drawn they will never go back together again. This is where the problem may lie if you cannot put them into two pairs with your existing piggies.
The problem will be if Larry doesn’t get on with any of them. Larry will then need a new friend and will need to live in a separate hutch. The trio of Percy, Ernie and tufty, while they are getting on now it doesn’t mean they always will. So one of them will need separating out and whichever one it is is left alone will then need a new friend and another separate hutch.
