hey guys. Alright, well one of my guinea pigs died...well my brothers, his name was Chaz. My dog got at the cage and sadly, killed one. The other one is alright though, no injuries, just probably scared to death. His name is Beans.
Would it be good to introduce a new guinea pig to the cage? I mean, Beans is probably a little over a year and lived with Chaz all his life. My brother would like to have a new guinea pig and he's pretty broken up about losing Chaz.
Would it be safe to introduce a new guinea pig to the cage?
What do you think?
I'm guessing beans is a male? if so it can be hard to bond boars.. take a look at www.barmy4boars.co.uk there is lots of help on there, you need a baby boar because they tend to bond better, but thats not to say they deffo will bond..please just take a look at that website, and make sure you keep your dog away from the guinea pig cage
Sorry you have had a piggy Killed
You could try introducing another Boar into the cage with beans but you would still need to have a second cage incase it doesnt work out.
The Main Problem you are going to have is keeping the Dog away from the cage because now that it has killed one it will definatly try and get back to the cage to get any others.
Hi Dust, The dog getting to the cage has probably contributed to Beans being so scared If the cage is indoors then best keep the dog out of that room altogether I would say!
I have recently introduced a new adult boar (Gilbert) to my adult boar (Murran) & all is well, but I took my Murran along to the rescue & they were introduced there to see how it went first. I had to sterilize the cage & dishes etc with baby sterilizing solution so that it didn't smell of my piggie. All is well with these two but it does depend on their personality & usually a baby boar of about 6-8 weeks works out but no guarantees.
Your best option would be to ring round your local rescue centers & see if you can bring Beans along so they can see if there is a particular piggie he seems to get along with.
I agree with piggyback .It is essential to provide safe accomodation before even thinking of getting another pig.Accidents like this are horrible and really should not happen.
