Geoff my eldest Guineas who is approx just over a year lost one of his bottom teeth 2 or three days ago and has still been eating normally but during playtime I have noticed he's lost his other bottom tooth. He's still eating and I have felt the stumps and they are still firm and not loose or wobbly but I'm just concerned that he's lost both so close togeather, does anyone know why and would it be worth a trip to the vets just to be safe.

Geoff never chews at the bars or hard chews and he's not had a recent change to his diet.

Please keep an eye on his weight and if necessary, cut his veg into small strips and mush up his pellets if he struggles picking up things.

It can well be that when he broke his first tooth that he also impacted on his second tooth at the same time, and that the added pressure on his single tooth has then led to it breaking as well as it as already weakened.

You may want to see your vet if the still existing teeth overgrow and do not meet nicely to self-sharpen against their opposite partners once those grow back. Hopefully the teeth are going to be fine when growing back and settle back in normally and with no intervention needed. But you are of course always free to see your vet and have the teeth seen. If you are worried about weakened teeth, add some extra vitamin C to their diet.

I went through this exact same scenario with one of my girls a few months ago.
Ruby snapped both of her front teeth off, right down to the gum line.
I started weighing her daily (she did loose a bit of weight at the start) and also started preparing her daily veg ration by peeling it into long thin strips with a potato peeler.
Then I took her out of the main cage twice a day and put her in a laundry basket with a towel inside so she could eat slowly and on her own.
She quickly regained the lost weight, and in under 3 weeks had perfect new teeth.

The thread about it (including all the fabulous advice I received) is here:
