I'm thinking about getting another guinea pig? But I would like to get two. What are better compaions. 2 males or 2 females to be housed together. I know it's better to get them both together.

yeah that or castrated male and female :) but often two of the same sex are slightly better, as sometimes castrated males can still pester females and it can get stressful for them.

In my experience two females usually get on better than two males if you get them both at the same time.:)

This questions come up a few time Indy_fan. Generally females are a safer bet as they tend to get on better but personally, i prefer to have a pair of boys as they are much more confident ive found.

I love all my pigs but I must admit to favouring boars slightly over sows because of what bubblesqueak said, they just seem to be a little bit more confident and friendly. My sows still run from me whereas my boars are all wheeking at the bars when I go into the barn!

But there is that problem of what if they full out. And I had 2 boars and then it went to four as both were dominant and fell out so it can increase your numbers but I don't see any reason not to get 2 boars if they are already an established pair for a rescue. Boars get such a hard time and are often overlooked in rescues because of the dominance issue which is sad.

I'd give a couple of boars a home. :)

Thank you all for the advice. I want to get my vet bill paid off before I decide on getting another guinea pig. Thank you again.x)
