Today i was having snuggles with fudge and noticed she had 2 marble sized lumps in her neck, i havnt noticed these before, and they dont bother her at all at the moment, i felt my other piggys to see if any of them had these and they dont, their necks are smooth! there are no wounds around the area to indicate an absess, does there need to be a wound for an absess to form?, they are under the skin!
she will be in the vets tomorrow, i just need a little reasurrance really that hopefully these are nothing serious and that other people's pigs have had these and are completely fine?

from a very worried kelly, fudge, sprinkles, caramel, bubbles, squeek, princess and rihanna x

Hmm the first thing that came to mind was a swollen gland, or lymph nodes? Not sure if this happens to pigs though. I hope it's nothing serious!

It sounds rather like swollen glands or lymph nodes. Please check with a vet.

How old is Fudge?

If hse is young (i.e. less than 3 yrs) , then it sounds like cervical lymphadenitis - a bacterial infection of the lymph nodes in the neck/shoulder region (lots of different bacteria can cause this condition) - and not uncommon in guinea pigs......but if caught fast enough is completely curable by antibioitics.

I had an outbreak (yes it can be contagious) in my herd once.

You need a vets visit to find out if it is this or something more sinister (lymphoma - normally only occurs in older pigs)

Make sure she is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing and not losing weight (weigh on scales daily) and *** none of your other pigs have swollen nodes (vet check up for all would be best)

If she is diagnosed with cervical lymphadenitis then come back on here for further advice after the vets visit (make a note of meds prescribed) and keep sick piggies apart from the rest atm to prevent spread.
