2 More Lovely Piggies But 1 Big problem..

My little boy was neutered just over two weeks ago, he was bedded on fleece or vet bed and had no problems, though last night he did pee on Barbra's head during play time (they are closely supervised and he was put straight back in the cage!) and then left "boar juice" all over his car.

I did feed him his fave veg after the op tho

Hi. I have had guinea pigs for many years and always found benefits of having the boars neutered outweigh any problems. In my experience, for example, the pungent urine smell decreases, the aggression some of them have displayed is reduced and don't know if there has been any research on this but they have lived long lives. 2 years ago I lost Shadow who died a month away from his 10th birthday. His brother Kenneth died the year before when he was eight and a half. None of my other males have died under 6 years old.
I have several guineas now because, (and yes you would think I would be more experienced in this) I made a mistake recently when dividing a litter up. However I still think that when the boys are old enough I will have them neutered.
 
Yep!:) Idon't know if to be happy (because he can go with the girls in 4 - 6wheeks) or be nervous because he may not make it:(:(

yep i had my two done! just be prepared and you'll be fine. You need to use fleece / vetbed or towels when you get him home as any dusty bedding eg.. megazorb shavings etc.. could get into the wound. You also need to keep hay off the floor in case a bit pokes their sore bits (use a hayrack and clean any which has spilt out daily).

You may find he acts a bit funny for a day or two but should be back to normal after a few days. you need to tip him over every day and check that there is no sign of infection / problems with the stitches.

Mine were naughty and chewed theirs but luckily didn't cause much damage just a small amount of blood (literally a few drops on the fleece). I had them both checked over and vet said they were fine just a bit naughty :{

How long does he need to be kept on fleece/towels? When he goes to the vets (tomorrow!) should I wash & clean his cuddle cup and teddy so he can have something familiar when he wakes up? What is it like?

Patch is at the vets now, I took him in at 10:30. I'm going to pick him up at 2:30 just 2 hours!:)):))
Hope he's OK, The vet put him in his travelling box under her desk so it was nice and quiet for him. He's in his cuddle cup with his fleecy blankets on the floor and veggies!

Your vet let you pick him up after just two hours? Both of mine had to be dropped off between 8:30-9:30 and had to stay in overnight.

How is he getting on?
 
He's getting on really well, he started eating veggies and dried food straight away when he got home and isn't bothering with his stitches:):)
 
He was at the vets at 9:30 in the morning and was wrung up at 4:00 pm to come pick up him up and to say he was ok. I was there at 4:30 so he spent 7 hours at the vets.
 
Glad to hear he is doing well :) Just keep an eye on him, make sure he's eating and not having problems on his operation spots.

What medicine did they give you? I found it easiest to drop the meds on to parsley and let mine eat it rather than the stress of trying to syringe directly into the mouth.
 
They didn't give me any 'take home' meds just a check up on Wednesday. Should he have had meds to take home? I think they glued the cut. He has got an appetite and has just finished a big chunk of orange pepper and is now onto his carrot and apple:)
 
I had to give Metacam once a day for 5 days with Mabelle and twice a day for 3 days then once a day for 3 days with Seymour - Not sure why there was a difference between the two, perhaps the weight of them at the time of the op.
 
I would assume that you should have meds to take home, for pain relief. Give you vet a call in the morning to double check. I also saw that you said they charged you more than you were expecting - I'd get this checked as well as the cost indicates that you did pay for meds (mine were both just over £60 each at my practice)
 
I don't know, it cost 58 pound, they did the operation and gave me some powdered food that makes about 5 servings. It seems a bit much if it doesn't include meds. There is a checkup tomorrow and I shall ask about medication and why the price was higher
 
Mine was over £50 with no pain relief or syringe food. It's not cheap is it?
 
The food I was given she said could be given by syringe or spoon fed, it did seem quite a lot yes, I'm just glad that he's ok and not bothering with his stitches :)
 
You do usually not get any med for the first day after the operation, as painkiller, antibiotic etc. have all been given subcutaneaously (injected) for the op and will last for 24 hours.

As you are usually up for an post-op check up, you will get your meds (if needed) then.
