2 more piggies in a bad way - How can people be so cruel?

These 2 little darlings arrived this afternoon

First there is Morgan who has 2 huge golf ball size abcesses under her chin. My vet has already drained some of the puss but she is now on antibiotics for the next week and a half. Because her previous owner had her running round with males she is booked in to be spayed next Thursday and will have any additional work done to the abcesses then.

Then there is poor little Alfie :'( I am so angry with the previous owner for not doing something about him sooner. He has really bad dental problems, scaring on one eye from a previously untreated eye infection and weighs just 470g compared to over 1kg for an adult pig :'( His problems were so bad that the entire underside of his body was soaked where he had been dribbling. He also got the once over from my vet this evening as I was worried about his eye. When I got home I did extensive dental work on both his back and front teeth which were in a real mess. His mouth must be really sore right now and although I started to syringe feed him he seems to have mastered the art of grabbing a mouth full of oxbow pellets and dunking his mouth in the water dish to soften them.

These 2 little pigs have got a long way to go before they will be healthy and 100% happy :'(
 
Well done Cheryl, Alfie's gorgeous. Oxbow pellets have been a godsend with my dental prob pigs too , but have never had one that softens them with water :)

Neither have I ;D although I should imagine once his mouth is feeling better he will eat them normally. He is such a sweet little pig :smitten:
 
It is amazing what some people will let there pets suffer.

They are both so sweet, hope they have a speedy recovery now they are in good hands :smitten:
 
I don't understand how people can do this to animals, they should never be alowed to have children if this is how they look after things :( but they are both gorgeous and are in great hands now! Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and that the rest of their lives make up for their poor start.

That's so sad! I wish owners like this could be prosecuted! They are gorgeous though, really sweet looking. I feel so sad for them, are they going to be rehomed when they are better? If so will they be rehomed together?

how can anyone do that to them? they should be posecuted, i agree! :police:
 
AWWW I am so happy they are safe with you but how can people be so cruel.... poor piggies. :( :'(
 
They both came from people in Norwich. When morgan has been spayed and her abcesses cleared up she will be up for adoption. It will be quite some time before Alfie will be ready for a home and even when he is I will only home him locally or to someone who is near a rodentologist so we can keep on top of his teeth problem.
 
I am in Norfolk and I think Morgan is lovely but I already have two sows so I don't know how well she would get on with them (they are both young - about 13 weeks old).

I've registered an interest in Morgan. As Ive mentioned I'm prepared to tank on a Spayed Sow to home with Cuzzy. I'm not sure Cheryl would agree, either way it's fine but thought I've got to try. :)

That's so sad. :( How can people do this?

I'm glad you have them now. I got my Sparky from a rescue home 5 weeks ago and took her to the vet for a once over and she weighed only 660g, and she's nearly a year old. She's gaining like mad now and is almost up to 800g so I hope Alfie and Morgan are better soon and go to a good home.
 
wow Cheryl great pictures of the teeth. Bet he's in heaven with you tending to him. Believe me I know what it feel like to have your teeth fixed & working properly. I think that picture should possibly be made a sticky so people can see how important it is to be aware of what guineas teeth can do to them (in the negative way). Might be worth taking a picture of a healthy set of teeth for comparison....?

I think that would be a wonderful idea i had no idea until recently that this can be a real problem for piggys so the more info the better
 
I really do despair.

That's a great idea, I wouldn't know what danger signs to look for in teeth, a comparison would be really helpful, even though ours get a once over every few months from Vedra it would still be good to spot the beginnings of any problems.


Poor little guys, thank goodness they found their way to you. As they have quite obviously been denied medical attention, does this qualify for the previous humans to be reported?
 
awww poor little piggies. Some people in this world are so cruel, how could they be so neglectful to helpless animals is beyond me. I am so thankful for people in this world like you.
