Meet my two very special boys...

Trufle and Sam...
These boys hold a special place in my heart...
Truffle is nearly completly blind... has cataracts in both eyes... even though he is nearly completely blind he is so trusting of you and falls asleep on your lap for cuddles...
Sam came from a not so ideal situation... He was kept by a poor woman who had some behaviour problems and had a terrible child hood and transfered her problems on to sam in the form of rough handling... i do not beleive it was intentional harm on her behalf.... I do not hold the blame on her... He was rescued by a care worker...
Sam is terrified of people... if you tryed to handle him when he first came in he would lunge at your hands if they came near you... after a few days of hard graft with him he will let you pet him when hes in the cage... still not keen on being picked up... he has URI at the moment...

these two boys are so special to me and once sams URI has cleared i hope to bond these boys...

They look lovely, hope you manage to bond them okay.x

Poor little fella's! They know what side their bread is buttered now! Sweetie pies x

They are gorgeous!

Cataracts are no major problem once a piggy has adjusted to them - I have currently three girls with them, one very advanced.
All the best with taming your skittish boy. I guess you are using a pick up "shuttle" of some sort? Once he realises that you are not interested in touching him, he will become much more cooperative. Up to a point, it is very much a matter of patience and persistence, and tiny steps. Hopefully, he will feel better soon. Medicating a skittish piggy on arrival is so hard because you can't build up trust in the way you would like to!

Best of luck with the bonding!

I I'm honest you can't really tell he can't see well... He runs in to stuff on occasions... Nips you if your hand just appears... Which is why I end up singing to him as I'm opening the door... :)) and he's sniffy...
With sam I don't really pick him up... Because he is very fat he doesn't move to quick and I tend to be able to bribe him with some veggies and squirt the septrin in then... Because he goes on freek out if you touch his tummy...
He's doing well... Hasn't bitten me in over 48 hours now... :))
I have decided against giving him a hidey as I think it would cause more problems in getting him handleable but his cage is high up and out of the way so no one bothers him...
If I'm honest I think the septrin has helped him tame down a bit... As he quite l

I have learned a few essential "cataract protocol" items behaviours around sight impaired piggies - like, you don't surprise them, picture what you are going to do in your mind, move deliberately and just touch him very lightly before you pick him up and have a special signal for it, so he can brace himself.
One of my cataract piggies even learned to follow me (or better my voice directions) on the lawn for several yard. We had worked out a system for "come to my voice" "you are going right" "you are going wrong" just before she went pretty completely opaque.
Here is Mischief's story in pictures: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33420

Good thing you are on septrin and not on baytril! I am currently trying to get Caron to take septrin from the syringe, so I don't have to run her down and pick her up every single time. She's one of the Lymington lot and has still a few issues re. pick up (not helped by having masses of very fine long hair).

I hope that Sam will settle down and relax once he knows that you are not after hurting him, poor boy!

Aw, they are both gorgeous! x)
Is it just me, or does Truffle not look like he has cataracts in that photo? Just wondered because I've never seen it in R/L, and the only pictures I've ever seen is of where it's really blue. :S

Best regards,
Isabella, Tallulah, Penelope & Lily.
