Hello, and more importantly thank you! We put our 2 year-old female piggy on Feliway glucosamine (about 125 mg per day) about 4 months ago to relieve her diagnosed cystitis as recommended in your forum. We have had a couple short flares since then. However, we are now in week two of a stubborn flare. We've tried doubling up on dosing twice for a couple days in these two weeks. It looked like it was helping, but as soon as we went back to the regular 125mg per day, the whimpering continued. Can anyone tell me if we should double the dose for longer than the 2-3 days? Will this be safe for her?

Hi

I would up the glucosamine again for now if it does indeed bring much needed temporary symptom relief but would recommend that you contact your vet tomorrow to see whether she may need to be upgraded to cartrofen.

It is a much stronger glucosamine based arthritis drug (with some added stuff) for both humans and pets that has tested out in research for safe use in guinea pigs in recent years as an effective drug for the more severe cases of sterile cystitis but the thankfully relatively few very worst ones.

Your girl is either at the lower end of the severe band or there is another underlying issue which has started to impact on her immune system and through that on her mild to medium sterile IC.

All the best!

Sorry to take up more of your time. I'm wondering if (before this flare) the fact that I was breaking up her regular 125mg daily dose into 2 half doses (about 60 mg every 12 hours) had an impact...
I wasn't giving her the full 125mg hit in one dose. Do you think giving it to her in one "flooding", 125mg shot would be more beneficial?
