I need advice on one of the babies born 2 weeks ago. She was born 59g and now is 58g and cannot get her to put weight on. I have tried her with mummy and also started to soak nuggets and feed her off a spoon but she doesn't eat enough to make her weight go up. She also doesn't seem to be able to eat as well as the other 2. I'm really lost :(

Could you try thinned evaporated milk and see whether that does the trick? If you use a syringe, you need to let her lick literally drop by drop t make sure that nothing is going down the wrong way; about 1ml per hour round the clock.

I am very sorry that you are so hard up against it. If the baby has got a problem with processing food, then your efforts will be very much in vain. All you can do is try your very best in this kind of situation. :(

Hi, when hand feeding babies you need to add some probiotic to the food. The best way is to get a fresh poo from the mum and mash it in to the food. Do this for about four feeds longer if need be. If a baby has had none or little milk from its mother it will have problems digesting food without this method. I find plain complan works well, 1 level teaspoon to 5 teaspoon cooled boiled water mash in a fresh poo until the liquid turns brown ( yucky but vital ). Warm it up before feeding as they prefer warm feeds. You can also try some weetabix mashed in the complan or thinned evap milk too & offer a few drops of plain water in between feeds. I feed babies every four hours to give them time to digest & feel hungry again. Hope this helps :)
