Peanut has been rumble strutting quite a bit for the last 3 weeks so when at the vets yesterday for Dilly, I mentioned it. The vet checked her over and said she can feel 1 small ovarian cyst.

She said if her behaviour gets worse and she seems unhappy then we can try the hormone injections.
She said that if the cyst bursts it's not likely to be dangerous because they're just filled with fluid.
She said removal would be a last resort.

Peanut hasn't lost weight or any hair. Rumble strutting is the only symptom she has.

When I was younger I had a pig with 2 large cysts. The vet removed them and my pig survived surgery. I can't remember the exact details but I know she only lived for a few weeks afterwards.

I don't know what to do for the best. I've heard conflicting things about the injections and surgery. This is an 'exotics' vet I am seeing. Shall I just wait and see how Peanut gets on?

Xx

As it's only small I personally would just wait and see for the time being.

My Tilly had 2 very large cysts removed and she sailed through the op and was just fine afterwards. I have never tried the injections although I know that several members on here have done.

Thank you for replying. I'm glad your girls were ok :)

Do the cysts ALWAYS get bigger? Is it a case of just waiting for her to get worse? Or do some just stay small?

The cysts can come and go, they are a symptom of hormone imbalance as are the behaviour changes and crusty nipples. If she is generally well and not losing weight (which can happen with large cysts), just monitor her for now
