Some people on here seem to have A LOT of piggies. I'm just a little curious, how do you do it?

Do you have one or several large groups? How do you find time to tame them? What do you do when you go away? Do all your money go to veggies and vet bills?

I also wonder how you came to have so many piggies. Is it because you find adorable rescues deserving of a good life, or because people know you'll take care of animals and bring you unwanted ones?

Just curious -and a little bit fascinated :)

I love seeing pigs interact in a group and would one day like to have maybe seven, but it will have to wait until I no longer need to travel with them (or at least have a car!)

at the moment i have around 40 of my own piggies and 6 foster piggies, mine all live in groups, i have so many as any rescue piggies that dont find a home, or have any medical problems stay with me.
I do spend alot on supplies for them but they are worth every penny :) i also buy everything in bulk as its cheaper, i have sacks of food rather than bags and my hay i have in bales, the only thing i buy every few days is their veg so that its fresh, people are always bringing things too me and i just cant say no lol. Aswell as piggies i get kittens, puppys, rabbits, someone bought me a goldfish once, ive also taken in parrots and chinchillas, the list is endless :)

i have 5 boys harry ben & bambi live on ther own
harry likes his own space
ben has ocd!
bambi just likes to jump eveywhere

jake & oliver live together

got jake as beckham (who is at the bridge) needed a cage mate p@h rescue
harry came off the freeads web site just feel for him (glad i did as his home was only twice as big as him)

ben & bambi came from a rescue (who got them from a market selling pets)

oliver came from p@h went to get nuggets & was looking at him & had to bring him home (as jake had lost his cage mate & that was love at first sightx) )
i dont go out much & daughter (who is a teenage) doesn't want to go away with me the most i have ever left them is over night i just love my boys x)x)

Hi I have four girls who live together and a pair of bonded boars who share a cage. I buy my dried food for 16.00 for 15kg. And buy large bags of hay. I buy there veg weekly buying basic range veg and anything thats on offer that week. I'm also lucky to have a large tescos near by that has to close at 7pm on a saturday and not allowed to open sundays so buy a lot of reduced but good quality veg from them x)x)

I have a group of 12, all living together in a 6 by 6 shed (2 neutured boars, 10 girls). Everything is bulk bought, and toys are toilet roll tubes, cardboard boxes - all recycled stuff.

I only have four but if I had room i'd get more!

when I live in a bigger house in a few years, I'd love a largish group of girls maybe with a neutered boar in the mix. I currently have 2 pairs one neutered boar and one sow per pair. I wouldn't want to integrate them into a new group as I think it would be asking for trouble so I'd need at least 4/5 more pigs :))

I have 3 piggies, 2 boys who live together and angel who lives on her own as she likes her own space.
I would like more but dont have the room :(

Thanks for answers!

Red, that sounds cool! So the two males lead the group together!?

And boy howdy, Petcrazy, 46 piggies?!?! I was gonna ask if you remember all their names... I know I get my four mixed up :)

I have just offered #8 a home... but I will definitely stop there!

That lady is definitely my last one, as we are running out of space!

But she really deserves another home and not everyone will take her due to her being four years old. (Look under "Flower" in Rescue)

I have 7. I say they're like chocolates, you can never have just one :))

I have 22 piggies - I have 2 groups of 4 and the rest are bonded pairs.

It is a lot of work but I love having them so wouldn't have it any other way! Cleaning out takes some organisation but I tend to do them in 2 halves - one set one day and one the next. I buy bales of hay and bedding (Dixons Dustless) and dried food by the sack too. I buy veg twice weekly and do tend to choose it based on offers and the basics range but my piggies are all happy and chunky so their lifestyle suits them very well!

I have about 30 pigs here at the moment.

14 are mine - some from before I started rescuing, others that are rescues with long term health issues that are permanent residents. 8 of these live in a large group on the shed floor (1 neutered boar and 7 sows), a trio of sows, 2 pairs of boars and a single boar.

Then there are rescues who are nursing litters or expecting litters (in my kitchen!) - 1 sow with 4 babies, 1 other sow who is on pregnancy watch.

The rest are available for rehoming but not reserved yet.

The veg is the most expensive thing, everything else is bought in bulk (hay, bedding, dry food).

Morning rounds take me about half an hour, evening takes longer. In summer they rotate into outdoor runs if the weather is nice. A full clean takes me about 2 hours.

I have 10.

I have one cage of 7 that house 6 girls and currently behind grids in his own bit a young male who will be neutered to live with the girls.

Then I have another cage of 3 which is 2 rescue girls and a boy who was neutered to live in there.

I have upped numbers significantly since May when we started but feel full now. I have started buying hay in bulk and will be doing the same with pellets. I need to find ways to reduce my veggies bill or I need to give them less variation and buy bulk big bags of smartprice veg I think. Right now they are getting herbs and expensive food that doesn't go very far. I am toying with the idea of growing some this year but don't know if it will be worth it.

People do think i'm going mad. I know I'm not!

:)) What a great way to describe it! Although some people might look at it the wrong way and think you eat Guinea Pigs! rolleyes

I only have 2 piggies but they mean the World to me! :) xx

i have 21 adults at the moment but am looking to rehome some as it is proving to be hard work and i cant dedicate enough time as id like to each piggy. 2 go to a new home this saterday which will ease the load, then hopefully i can rehome 4 of the babies in a few weeks (am keeping the little wirey !)

i have my girls in 2 seperate groups, then all the boys are in pairs. Hay comes free from the local farm and dried food is bought in 25kg sacks for €16

veggies i try and get from the farmers markets as its cheaper and they give me any veg they cant sell( maybe its broken, snapped, bruised but still good to eat!)

i have 11

4 boys live togther
then i have 2 boys who live on there own

i then have gorop of 3 girls and a gorup of 2 girls.

I buy my hair off some farmer

i get a 25kg bag for 12 every 3 weeks

and 1 big sak of carrta every 4 weeks for 1.50
