This time last year Ellen weighed 1200g, today she weighs just 1000g. She’s 3.5 years old and has gradually lost the 200g in the space of 12 months.

She has regular vet checks, the latest one just last Thursday where I had her checked for ovarian cysts which my vet said her ovaries feel totally normal.

She did have IC for just over 2.5 years but that stopped at the beginning of this year where my vet gave me the go ahead to stop her daily cystease and metacam.

Should I be worried about the weight loss or could it just be that she’s lost some over the hot summer that we had?

We have had older piggies lose weight after an illness and then stabalise at a lower weight and not regain what they lost. Is she stable now Claire?

Keep an eye mate 20g as you know could be a wee :) She acting okay?

When I had Ellen here in summer again, her 'heft' (i.e. her weight/size ratio) felt very good whereas when I holiday boarded her for you the first time two years ago, your piggies all felt on the chubby side to me. ;)

She is still a good weight. Please keep in mind that 40g is the daily variance in weight.

If the weight gain is picking up, then I would have her diabetes and kidneys checked. As she is, she is perfectly healthy in herself and still a very good weight!

Thank you for the reassurance :) I was juat worried about the years weight loss. I’m glad she felt a normal size to you

My lad Rupert was 1150g for a good few years and after his bladder stone issues went to about 850g at his lowest.

He's now about 960g (he's 6ish) but still pretty healthy, always worried he didn't get back to his original weight but think that was just a bit of podge he prob didn't need!

My chinchillas have always had a bit of seasonal weight loss, over the summer tend to lose a few grams and in winter pile it back on again (well up to about 50g, a lot for a chin!). As long as acting happy and stuff I don't worry too much :)

Thank you. My boar, Edward has lost a little weight too but nowhere near as much as Ellen

My sow Jessie lost some weight around the same time I was having issues with Rupert, was a bit worried so Simon (at cat n rabbit) had a look at her, said was a great weight for a girl at 950.
Think was just due to the change of food (grainless) and bit of change to her veg because of calcium etc.

Rupert feels pretty bony around his back end but obv an OAP. She's 5, feels good and no bony bits so I just try and go by that really.
Am used to big, chunky boars though so always feels tiny!
