I'm helping a guinea owner whose piggies have mites, tho idk what kind, I don't think the owner knows either. I haven't seen the piggies, it was a call for help on the German equivalent of Craigs List, Gumtree etc. I have got the owner as far as giving up on coconut oil and going to the vet, where he/she was sold Spot-on enough for one dosage for each of 6 gpigs. The owner is very wary of medication anyway and read the packet only to discover that the Spot-on he/she was sold is apparently not guinea dosage, so he/she halved. "Wonderful" I said "you need a second dosage anyway to attack the eggs!"

Sorry, I must be blind, I can't find where mite treatment is explained on the forum. So could somebody tell me how long after the first installment the second installment should be done? (German guinea websites are all full of contradictory info, aargh!)

Thanks!

We can only give general advice on this and cannot state with any certainty that this advice will translate safely across to the product this person is using.
It depends on the product.

Ivermectin is usually three doses with two weeks between each dose (so six weeks to do a full treatment), but I believe selamectin based products can be different

No treatment attacks the eggs though. It only kills already hatched mites which is why the second treatment is needed (those would have been eggs at the first treatment and then hatch to be caught by the second treatment)

Yes, you're right, of course. I got confused. It's the newly hatched eggs that need the second and third dosages.

I'll pass the info on about differences between Ivermectin and Selamectin. And hope it all helps these piggies and their owner. Thanks @Piggies&buns

The owner thanked me (so passing that on to you too @Piggies&buns ), said he/she was going to follow my advice and then he/she deleted their question on what is ebay classifieds here. Can only hope... But certainly good to get off the coconut oil.
